I REALLY need to make this money work for me, and not just disappear over time. I've been scrambling for somewhere to put the money, where I can make an effort to use the gains to pay bills so I can quit my job or should force early retirement. All roads have pointed to the financial market of some sort which is a good idea buh where else should I put money besides the financial market? We have a 13% RPI rate so cash is tough.

Yep great question and that’s always the one - where would you rather be if you have an option. Personally I’m always invested aside from a small emergency fund. Financial-market for me seem the only way forward with my long time horizon (accrued almost $1.4m in gains since 2020 ) but if you don’t have that fortune of time it’s a tough market out there almost nowhere feels safe! . Just know the risk you're comfortable with . Mistake is expensive

- It's time in the market, not timing the market that counts - valuations really matter - investors need a margin of safety (MOS) - an investor needs to buy at or below the intrinsic value of a business, with a MOS, to make returns more likely - share buy backs are very efficient ways of acquiring more future earnings tax effectively - all investments must pass the common sense test Real life example of the above: so when Berkshire buys it's own shares , and/or buys another insurance company like it has recently, investors should really take notice. They are billionaires because they had the opportunity to buy things that were worth more than how they had to spend to acquire them.

That is not true. BRK success is greatly based on it's insurance investment in Nation Indemnity Insurance. The insurance business provided the capital, through float, to make other investments. Without that capital, Buffet could have never had the success he had early on and that early success is why his record has so been so fantastic. When Buffet is lauded as the "greatest investor of all time" it has much more to do with 1965-1990 the it does 1999-2022. By the way, National Indemnity was not even Buffet's idea it was Ben Graham that first invested in National.

WB's mind is WIRED this way. I've read "Security Analysis" by Graham and Dodd (WB's teachers) and it's the mindset of research and value. Value contrarianism WORKS, and the recent spell of growth mania has been insane and rankles people like WB and myself (30 yr advisor), but now look at energy and value take off. A value guy indeed was going to miss Covid, because it had no economic connection. Worse yet, value investing looked very attractive in 2/20 but covid derailed it. It made my career a struggle but I survived. WB and Munger can come up with cash and "time the market" because bubbles are truly self evident. 2000, 2008/9 and now could hardly be missed by people that value assets, income, profits, ratios etc.

0:48 The answer is simple. The timing is coincidental. If the good stocks (businesses) are undervalued, you buy. If they are way over valued, you sell and profit. I bought S-M Energy @ $1.25 and it's $35 as of yesterday. The media can say all they want about fossil fuel, but it's never going away.

Warren Bufest is correct for the most part, however if you need to make the monthly bills from trading profits..you have to be short term and technicals run your behavior.

It's not difficult to time the market, just buy when the FED starts to buy and sell when the FED stops buying.

Dividends that are greater than 2x of ten-year treasury are telling the market something is wrong with the company. I've been burned by juicy dividends over my long career. Now, the stock must really look good if the div was zero. And if a dividend right now is greater than about 4, I'm very suspect. But, yes, dividends are very meaningful, and trillion-dollar market cap stocks that pay little;e or no dividends are trouble waiting to happen. FAANG, only one company pays a dividend, and it's 1/2 of one percent!

@@dagsterblaster4973 Yes, But you can't get a paycheck if there are no dividents. Atnt dividents are less now which is actually a good news.
