Hi Ivana, just one suggestion and this isn't from saving money point of view but safety. I'd suggest you take a cab to the nearest bus stop that has airport buses. These buses run by BMTC are safe and quite quick and they take the toll road as well. Only caution is that you must leave well on time. I find these buses to be far safer than cabs.

Multiple times I faced this issue. Cancelling the rides, asking to pay in cash. I have issues with Uber as they also cancel the rides frequently. No control over these app based taxis. I have a known person near to my house. I always use his cab for my airport drop and pick up. He costs more compared to Ola or Uber. But it is safe and convinient.

just take cash with you all the time. drivers are not fools to pay extra commision of online payment to company and government and much harder for them to maintain cash flow. they also need cash to spend and not gonna pay charge everyday to take few pennies out of atm all the time and if money get stuck in bank god help them. peace out.

So strange to see an airport again. The last time for me was just before the pandemic, in January 2020, when I came back from Mumbai to Düsseldorf. My plan was then to come back to India the next winter, because I wanted to visit the south of India, and very likely I would also have landed in Cochin... My first flight since the pandemic will be next week, to Porto and from there I will travel two weeks through central Portugal.

By the way I loved seeing you with Bambi. I was reminded of a 1977 Slovenian film from Yugoslavia called Sreča na Vrvici. By the way there is a film director from Kerala called Lijo Jose Pellissery and in my opinion he is just like Emir Kusturica in his film making style, I will tell you some similarities between them: 1) Emir bases his films in Balkan contexts while LJP bases his films in Kerala context. 2) Emir's films are centered around the Kafane while LJP films are centered around a Toddy shop. 3) In both films the protagonists sit across the table and they enjoy their food. In Emir's films it is čevapi, burek and whole roast lamb In LJP films it is Meen Pollichattu, Appams and Rabbit stew. 4) In both films the actors are all drunk, in Emir's film it is Rakija while in LJP films it is Toddy. 5) In both films the actors start fighting and there are brass bands to calm everyone down. Also Yugoslavian music in 1984 was better than American music in 1984 here is an example American artists from 1984 Bruce Springsteen Born in the USA Van Halen 1984 Laura Branigan Self Control Yugoslavian Artists from 1984 Bijelo Dugme Kosovska Djevojka Leb I Sol Tangenta Denis and Denis Program Tvog Komputera

Ola as a company/service has always been a mix bag but it’s currently the best bet to drive an electric mobility revolution in India. So, it should work on providing professional service to customers.

No tipping is not common and tbh doesn't resolve the problem. The problem is that they don't make enough to sustain themselves. If it's not the toll money, it's cancelling rides or demanding cash payments. It's a structural problem where cheating is a symptom of a rotten company dna

The safest approach to get to-and-fro the airport safely in an ola is to tell them you will cover for the toll. And even a 100 INR extra on the final bill will be a good tip by Indian cab standards. Like Ivana pointed out, the drivers are seriously underpaid. With the whole bunch of socio-economic issues, they tend to cut corners (like avoiding tolls). Just reassure them about covering the toll fee and commit for direct-to-driver payment while booking; eases them up a lot.

Back when I was in Bangalore the toll road wasn’t made until the last 300m. Could that be the reason he didn’t want to go through the toll? But I agree, it’s a part of the total fare, and as a customer it should not be our responsibility to ensure they are earning enough, that’s on OLA.

Had been missing your travel vlogs so much!!! That said ,I try to avoid Ola because of their weirdly high prices and multiple cancellations. I remember whilst returning from the hospital post vaccination ,I had to wait for more than 30 mins for Ola cabs,because they cancelled so many times ,for a ride that took only 30 mins 😑. This is the scenario most of the times Thank you for bringing this up,will be sharing this ,so that more people can see this and it reaches Ola Management!!!

I m from Bengaluru & I travel almost every 10 days / fortnight via OLA to BIALfor my businesstrips , that too I take early morning flights like 6 / 7 am boarding ,yes ,you are right ,drivers suddenly take detour to avoid tolls telling stories against OLA ,initially I confronted too with the drivers for their detours to save toll money but later ,I insisted at the time of entering the cab only to take Toll road only. I even complained to OLA about the same, but nothing improved. As I travel so much sometimes,it becomes routine and I tend to ignore but definitely when we say to drivers to take on toll road only ,they will take toll road.but many times even without telling anything, they take toll road only .. Not all of them are bad but sometimes you get bad drivers too.. One fellow asked me to cancel the booking after reaching my home so that the entire money is given to him without any record. I refused and insisted that I would never do, that too traveling by 2.30 am or 3 am in the midnight almost. Anyways, as always I enjoyed your video. Pl let us know the travel cost of Lakshdweep ( if it is not sponsored 😉) so that we will plan to go .. 😀

The dynamic pricing of Ola is ridiculous. God knows what algorithms they use to match drivers--- in Kolkata, almost always you end up with a driver really far away from your pickup spot. Have been refused by the driver at least twice in a week, I switched over to Uber finally. Much reliable and less costly than Ola, especially at night

Ola is the absolute worst. I almost missed my bus to go to my sister's wedding because the driver canceled my pre-scheduled, confirmed ride at the very last minute. Their customer support has no accountability whatsoever. I only use Uber and Meru Cabs these days. I heard recently train service was launched to the airport, so you can check that out to avoid traffic in the future.

We face same problem with Uber too. The drivers of both Ola and Uber have complained against the management. They are underpaid inspite of raised fuel price.

Once in Bengaluru, an Ola Driver refused pick up because he was supposed to take u-turn. I would have happily crossed the road, but I had just got off the bus and I had luggage on me and it was very dangerous for me to cross a busy street with so much luggage. But the Ola guy refused to come despite my pleads. No more Ola.

You said it, ola as a company does not treat its drivers well which in turn results in drivers treating us bad. I stopped ola long back. 99% of drivers in ola are very rude and dont accept ola money for payment like hey its a feature introduced by “ola”. Am from bangalore and its very common here. True. Uber is much better. I have been in similar situations. Initially I used to get irate on drivers but then I spoke with a few and all of them had same issues: the way ola reimbuses them. That leads to under paid drivers which ultimately gets passed onto customers

Even in a metro city/large airports, expect an hour or more of wait to get a driver to accept it or be ready to get stranded specially at night time. And then the messages ola sends daily even before your due date to make you pay, it feels like you have defaulted on them. I have now stopped using OLA completely, only issue now I have with UBER is its no way possible to speak with a live customer service representative in real time in case you need it. If Uber works on it, it will be a win win for both customers and drivers and UBER themselves. Anyways I can understand your frustration, trust me has hapenned with me many many times and OLA only has one scripted response for all of it i.e. we will look into it on a point based system.

Yes. But ola has gazillion other issues and yes most of them are around the rowdiness of these drivers and things that may lead to because of that. 2 weeks ago when I took ola (because Uber wasn’t available) and when I asked the ola driver to go slow over the potholes, he turned back, abused me and manhandled me out of his cab. All this because a pregnant woman asked for some consideration. I had stopped using ola for similar experiences in the past but this one was the final nail in the coffin. I’m so done with them.

It ain’t ola or Uber’s fault. Drivers are trying to make few quick bucks. They save 90 rs by taking that road. And they don’t get paid for tolls after one or two months as toll is added in your invoice.

So even if they avoid the toll, they will get the toll money. This is an issue every time I go to airport, be it ola or uber, driver will try to come up with an excuse as to why he can’t take the toll. Sometimes he does not have cash, sometimes he doesn’t have balance in fast tag. Just be very persuasive with him to take the toll. You can even check your ola invoice,it will for sure include toll charges.

Not just OLA ...UBER drivers also do this. But in uber you can contact customer and they refund you the toll amount. I too face it every time.

Sorry to know what you went through. I have had similar experience with Uber also while going to Bangalore Airport. I have been using both apps for years now. In fact, I have had my share of good and bad experience with both apps. Cab experience always has been specific to driver's attitude. The same set of drivers who were earlier looting passengers are now under pressure due to apps like Ola and Uber and portray themselves as sufferers. Do you think the same driver you travelled with would have been a different man if he had signed up for Uber? I bet he would still be the same. Serving a passenger is an individual trait over which those cab concentrator companies have a little control. They are NOT employers. That is a hard fact. It is a system which works for a driver as well as passenger to get easy and efficient access to cabs on their finger tips. But drivers can not walk away from the blame about their conduct towards passengers citing whatever payment conditions they signed up with Ola or Uber. By the way, I have had my share of good and bad experience with Ola as well as Uber in multiple cities. And while such issues must be reported to them in public domain, it is no guarantee that one app is better than other when it comes to experience which is specific to human behaviour. Just my take on the issues after using both apps consistently for a long time.

Your experience gave you a lot of anxiety and hence this outburst against Ola. But I seriously urge you to do more research on driver behaviour. They are not definitely not a holier than thou community 😂.

Thanks for adding your experience and explanation. I've used Uber since I deleted Ola 3 years ago and yes I've noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference in service. As a small example: Just the way Uber handles complaints through their system. They actually reply and take it into consideration (not sure what the outcome is but having customer service representative from Ola hang up on me is the great contrast you're asking for). Also the drivers SIGNIFICANTLY call les in advance to ask for drop location and determine if they want to take the ride or not. I've had an issue with Uber for an senior business partner and Uber not just was on top of it on Twitter, but kept duly replying and giving solutions on email and phone until it was resolved. It's the bigger system that's rotten at Ola, and it really shows in their driver's behaviour. NOPE it's not just me getting spooked by what happend. Literally have a million better things to do than dedicate 10 minutes of my life talking about how trash Ola is. If I decide to do that, it means it's serious and apparently a lot of other people are with me on that if you'd bothered to look at the stories other people have shared too. Don't downplay this nonsense with "whataboutism" because when I actually decide to call out only ONE company in the 8 years I've been in the social space, trust me to have done my ressarch properly and have extremely good reason to go off like this.

I really don't appreciate your assumption. You must be new to my channel and fail to do your research that I've experienced plenty of adventureous things in my travels. I don't loose my patience when I get spooked. I do loose my patience when a company, CONSISTENTLY over a course of a few years proves with their behavious how little they care about their "partners" but also their customers. Seriously look yourself in the mirror and reconsider how you speak to people online. Blaming drivers is just too easy, extremely disrespectful and ignorant when it's Ola they depend on for feeding their families.

But I would never want to absolve the drivers for their shoddy behaviour by passing the buck to Ola or Uber or whatever. I am totally with you on raising a voice against what went wrong. I hope this brings about the change you are looking for as a final outcome.

In fact, couple of days back only I have visited Conrad after watching your videos to celebrate my wife's birthday. Just a matter of coincidence that I saw this Ola video of yours before I could thank your for your video on Conrad. I have visited Baba Chatkora after watching your video. So can I say that now you are making assumptions about me? 😂😂 Ivana, try to understand that I am not accusing you of anything. I am just trying to put across my point. I have always found OLA a very poor taxi service provider. And your are absolutely right about them. Like you I have deleted their app more than 3 years ago. Not to forget their cars are maintained very poorly and their drivers are not as cleanly attired as Uber. Enjoy your vlogs very much.
