I TRIED A Reverse Wash N Go! Gel before Cream?!

Hey! The key to moisture when applying gel before cream is using a botanical gel. Gels like WetLine are very drying to the hair because of ingredient formulation and you do need to have a barrier under them like leave in or curl cream. When using a botanical gel that has a humectant base, you wouldn’t dry the water out of your hair before styling. Applying a humectant base gel to wet hair helps to retain water inside of the strands and attract additional moisture from the atmosphere as long as you don’t live in a very dry climate.

Aeleise, one of the stylist behind black girl curls, does this. She seems to like it for clients who live in cold climates. It gives them an extra coating on the outside of their hair to protect it from the harsh temp.

What The Kink hey! So yes I do this for clients in colder climates or who are very coarse/compromised cuticle. But I’m definitely NOT using WetLine gel or Deva Super Stretch on my clients for this. This application method is done with a plastic free gel botanical gel (aloe or flaxseed) like UFD Curly Magic or CurlMix Pure Flaxseed Gel. Then I apply a quality (not Deva) curl Cream on top like Innersense Quiet Calm. Definitely more botanical gel than cream. The flaking comes from the fact that the ingredient formulas of WetLine/Superstrech don’t work well together. Very cute results though!

I tried this out before this video Fran! I was on vacation this week in Florida and applied my Jane Carter cream and then my wetline, and topped it off with more cream. I had THE best wash and go in a long time, and I didn't even shingle! I went to universal studios the day after and fucked it up but 🤷‍♀️ trying it out again tomorrow 😂❤️
