I know you said not to explain it BUT the reason the cars start in a line is because they've already raced for their line positions ! Basically, all of them have a turn on the track long before the race, and each goes individually. The one who gets the fastest time alone gets 1st spot on the line, which is called their "pole position". So that's how they determine that !

After that, in a series of races usually the one with 1st "pole position" is just the driver that won the previous race

Hey Lucas, I appreciate you going outside your comfort zone and going all-in on a race weekend experience. NASCAR actually has a pretty rich history. Its roots can be traced back to the prohibition era when alcohol was outlawed in the United States. Bootlegging operations had drivers who would take stock cars and supe them up to outrun police while transporting illegal booze. When the alcohol ban was lifted, these drivers started racing each other to see who was the fastest. The sport grew into what it is now from there. As for the Saturday race, that was an Xfinity race. It's basically one of NASCAR's lower teir series where newer drivers prove their worth in the hopes of running in the main series, The Cup Series. I'm sure you've encountered some people who'd get all butthurt when you talk about NASCAR only driving in circles, but you're not wrong. That being said, there is some nuance and strategy to the whole thing if you know where to look. For example, entering a turn at the bottom means your car is taking the shorted route around the track, but the tighter you turn, the more you have to slow down and the more you can wear down your tires. Meanwhile, if you run towards the top of corners, you have to travel a greater distance that drivers on the low end, BUT you can also carry more of your speed through the corner. Drivers are constantly having to make decisions like this, sometimes on the fly, as they barrel around at speeds approaching 200mph with dozens of cars surrounding them. This is the appeal of NASCAR, seeing how a teams' strategies evolve over the course of a race. The party atmosphere of some of the events are also a fun time. Highly recommend going to other races at tracks that give fans more to see and do, like Dover, Charlotte, or Daytona. Also, did you know Pitbull and Michael Jordan actually own NASCAR teams? Pitbull is a co-owner of Trackhouse Racing and Michael Jordan is a co-owner if 23XI Racing!

This is so funny that you posted this today as I just found out today that Frankie Muniz is into NASCAR racing, which I found interesting since he did that Disney Channel movie called “ Miracle on Lane 2”. I saw a lot of NASCAR racing on TV as a kid since my Dad watched it, and while I respect the skill behind it, I can’t say it’s exactly the most engaging sport (but I’m not a sports person anyway). Respect you guys for checking out NASCAR and the Kansas '24 fall race watching Aric Almirola win Saturday and Ross Chastain Sunday. Looks like you had an awesome time with the food and music! Much more accepting than it used to be. Get a pit pass and radio headset scanners next time! I remember going dealing with cigarette smokes in the stands. It was much bigger years ago but at it's core it's about the racing regardless. Check out another race next year! Lots make it an annual thing. Great video too btw!

7:14 Ok so basically they qualify, and they compete for the fastest time in groups, group A and group B. The groups take turns and the top five in each group compete for the pole (or starting first) and all the other people’s starting positions are just based off their times. ​@@aliciaa4859qualifying time. The position they start in, is from qualifying. Sometimes, drivers fail tech inspection after qualifying. Which results in them starting in the back, or sometimes the team makes the changes to the cars after qualifying, even if they passed tech inspection.

This may sound ridiculous but what makes NASCAR different from IndyCar racing, Formula 1, etc? Is there a different skillset used, is it the cars, or something else?

@@user-dn6fw1ss1c can't say. The drives do train, but not like the way F1 does it. The way you get your way to the cup series, is by working your way up in racing series. You start off in late models, then arca. And then, you move up to the truck series. Then xfinity, and you are in cup. It takes a few years to make it to the cup series. But it works out. But sometimes, there are drivers that skipped trucks for Xfinity. Or truck drivers who skip Xfinity for cup. (Which is what I like to call, Xfinity series bypassers) There are drivers in cup, who raced trucks, xfinity. Or ones who skipped trucks for Xfinity like two times Cup Series champion Joey logano. And drivers who went from racing trucks, to bypassing Xfinity for cup.

@@FlatDerrickso there isn’t any except one of them but like he’s in the lowest series you can be in nascar and he only does it on a part time basis (basically just picks and chooses what his sponsors can afford) it really is expensive to be in nascar even though majority of the drivers are what we like to call “pay drivers” or “daddy’s cash” being able to afford anything that isn’t less desirable equipment is just impossible for drivers such as him :( it’s a cut throat sport and it’s sure as hell a messy one too

Watching you guys try out different things/places is always fun and entertaining! It's wild how much Jacob looked like the 20 driver! I find it a bit bizarre how much religion is inserted into a car race though, like I've never seen any prayer happen before a sports game and I always thought of NASCAR as a sport.
