1:13 If you look closely it does remove the paint from the wall. Also see 1:22 some paint is still on the back of the gadget. It might look very little amount of paint but it could be even more depending on the paint quality and duration of the gadget sitting on the wall.

Talking about the dial in the fan, the old fan regulators were designed to be at "Fastest Speed First" when the dial is turned on from off position and as you rotate the dial, the speed decreases.. I think they just tried to replicate that.
