I've been customising dolls since 2005, and I've made all those mistakes so here's some pointers with your issues from my experience. With the hair stitch packaging you're meant to pull apart the two plastic bits that are stitched together. You hold onto the short ends and pull them apart, and thus tear apart the stitches. Current My Little Pony glitter glue is the absolute devil, and even with pure acetone it can take ages to remove, so it's not an issue on your end, MLP bases nowadays are just a lot harder to deal with. To get the head off more easily, heating it with a hairdryer or dunking it in boiling water will soften it enough to squish out. With rerooting, yes your needle is sticking out too much. I usually reroot with the needle sticking out just over 1cm, anything longer and I snap, bend or break the needle. Also your hair plugs are too thick, a rule of thumb is a hair plug should never be thicker than the needle itself otherwise you're overloading it. If you want more hair in one hole, I would do several thinner plugs than try doing one thick plug. Also yes, while the MLP head is pliable, that head is still far too hard to reroot without being extra cautious. Again heating up the head with a hairdryer will reduce the chances of the needle breaking. If the plastic isn't as soft as a Monster High or Barbie head, the chances of a broken needle is higher. Another issue with needle breaking is if you're not putting in the needle at a perpendicular angle to the head, and instead putting it at a slight angle, it will break the needle cuz when you pull out the needle at the wrong angle it can snap it as well. Hopefully this rerooting experience hasn't put you off customising toys cuz of the learning curve.

Some tips on doll or pony customization. Removing or replacing heads: Hot water dunking of the head or the use of a hair dryer. When the vinyl is heated, it becomes more flexible. When removing the paint: as long as it isn't hard plastic, use acetone to remove factory paint from vinyl. You can get nail polish remover with aceton from your local stores like Walmart or Target in the nail polish aisle. Best to use cotton swabs or q-tips for better, and more accurate removal. Typically, sanding for hard plastic is best because the aceton WILL MELT PLASTIC. In caps, as I learned the hard way on a Monster High doll. X.x I think Dollightful has a great starter series for doll customization. When rerooting, as you figured, don't have the needle out too far. Also, be a little more gentle when pushing the needle in. Im still learning, and rerooting makes me so nervous still! I love wig making for dolls. ^^ Buuuut that's hard for ponies. You can also make your own rerooting needles fairly easy, if you end up breaking them. And I have the same issue with the needle loosening, even with pliers. Let us know if you find a solution! You've come a long way since your first customization of a pony, and each gets more and more beautiful. I absolutely love this pony, and love how you chose to show your trial and errors without shame. That is something that drew me to your channel. Are you thinking of trying dolls? I'd love to see you make attempts at some Monster High dolls, if you choose to.

Needle tip: Buy generic needles and use small wire cutters to cut the end at an angle to make your own rerooting needles. Much cheaper and you can buy better quality needles which will help limit the snapping (plus no shipping time if you have a local craft store). Rerooting needles online are generally made like this by people buying cheap needles in bulk and cutting the ends...
@justboredme224 жыл бұрын
Hey Jackie! The strip on her hair usually the hair is attached between two pieces of plastic that you can pull apart so you don't have to cut thread by thread...
@mariebite78794 жыл бұрын
Jackie, I've been customizing pony figures for years now and here's a tip for you to avoid breaking needles: Don't buy pre-made rerooting needles because they tend to be thin. Make your own by getting some thicc needles and cutting the eye of the needle at an angle using pliers. Before cutting you need to heat up the needle, I usually use matches, and when you cut you need to place the whole thing in some plastic bag so that the parts don't fly everywhere. Such needles tend to last longer. Also, as you reroot, make sure to place the needle at a 90 degree angle, perpendicularly to the head. This will put less pressure on your tool. Guys, like this comment so that she sees the tips! UwU

As a crafter... It doesn't work. I've used goo gone quite a bit, and it's great for removing the sticky stuff left meeting 3 by temporary glues like on packaging or labels... But it's not a stripper and won't take off paint or glitter paint. :-( Scrubbing with water would do the same thing sadly.
@roguewolf70534 жыл бұрын
Yep! It works well on removing glitter like that. I put on a fairly thick layer and let it sit for 5min or so and then use warm-hot water on a cloth to wipe it off. Also helps contain the spread of the glitter!!

Suggestions for the rerooting: twist the needle as it goes in. I've for that doing that lessens the impact on the needle heads. Try inserting the needle perpendicular and if you're having problems, go in with a thicker pin to widen the hole. Also, I recommend rerooting before painting and sculpting, just to reduce the chance of cracking. Finally, use acetone to clean off paints and glitter, but always test new plastics because some can melt with acetone and release noxious fumes. Not fun. Keep trying and great videos!

Hooded Raire I suggest watching that dollightful and making a plan for your future doll so you can have a budget template for when you do have the availability too do it, having this plan can help with future references on prices and help guide you financially. ❤️ good luck

Hey hey, you know the Pinkie Pie one?? Turn her into the Joker ewe Also, maybe the plug holes were too small? Next time, maybe use a different needle prior to make sure the holes are big enough to plug into. I'm not a doll customiser myself, but I also watch Dollightful and I think I've seen her do something similar before (Tho I think she was just making new holes???). Hope that helps you, and I can't wait to see your next one!

@@madd1egurl216 Well, who knows? Idk if end of Cupcakes Pinkie has blood on her or not, but if so she could just forgo the blood and just do the horn crown and Winged Cutiemark dress~ That would be a very difficult one though, as she'd most likely have to make the additional wings and horns herself

I was really happy to see you start MLP customs, since they're my favorite thing to do along with Littlest Pet Shop customs ^3^ my channel is mainly videos on them. Also there's a new wave of MLP figures out for the show Pony Life and oof they have no neck plugs or holes, so there's no way to pull the hair out like before, I had to use a crafting knife to cut it all away, same for the tail, kind of tricky but still it works 👍
