If I had it my way, all of these guitars would have a volume knob where the tone knob typically is. I never use the volume knob musically, so it's just in the way if it's anywhere near the bridge pickup.

Truthfully both tone and volume knobs should just be removed totally. No real point for them in modern metal. Plus volume can be better controlled with a foot pedal

Highly agree. I don't know why these manufacturers are so hellbent on having the volume knob so damn close to the bridge pickup. It gets in the way and forces the player to adjust the grip on their pick to play the treble strings. It's fucking annoying and completely unergonomic.

There are so many "almost" Ibanez guitars, and a lot of the time it's little stuff like those inlays. But I'm guessing those are mostly to differentiate them from more expensive ones. I have the same feeling with some high-end guitars. like having a non-matched black headstock, or on very expensive fanned-fret guitars where they do not finish the start of the fretboard diagonally, so you have the first fret cutting diagonally across with a little useless fretboard triangle sitting outside (which looks even worse if the headstock does actually match the non-black body finish)... For five grand guitars, I find that lazy.

My biggest gripe nowadays after having played a couple of more out there designs is just how awkward typical guitars are for a variety of playing positions. I really wish some more guitars took some of the cues from the abasi guitars with a cutout for your leg for classical, which doesn't compromise normal playing, or even just having the body cut in really close to the bridge and just be a bit more compact. Kind of sick of guitars especially PRS's that are just ridiculously fat behind the bridge to the point where it is so uncomfortable that I just don't want to play them. Another sad thing is the amount of cheaper 7, 8, and bass guitars that just don't offer the scale length that many people (especially beginners) might want to play the music they like.

That's also the real only way you can actually get them both at the proper angle and in alignment with the bridge too
@josuastangl7140
@josuastangl7140 5 ай бұрын
and it's actually a pretty easy fix for the manufacturer, because they only need to swap out the base plate. It's not complicated at all to get pickup baseplates with the correct angle for whichever fan you have. Obviously not ideal for the consumer to do after market, as the guitar already has an enlarged cavity for the bigger pickups.

Regarding those smaller Fluences. I think there might be slight problem with the low and high string when the output would be lower because string is not properly captured by the pickups. But I'm not sure about that of course. Regarding those inlays on the Jackson, I like how they complement the silver pieces on the bridge. But if I were to do completely black bridge, I would choose no inlays. When it comes to that Ibanez, I think that the thing that shouts "cheap" the most is the colour of the fretboard wood. This guitar would be great with simething much darker, to go with the look of the guitar. And the inlays wouldn't be that much of a problem. At least to me.

Yeah I agree with almost everything you mentioned. The inlays on the LTD I think actually looked decent with the strat style body shape, and whatever material they're made with just made it stand out a little bit. Maybe if they were on top or asymmetrical it would look cooler still. But the biggest thing for me is the multi-scale guitars and how the pickups aren't angled the same. The length of the pickups isn't as important in my opinion but if they were lined up perfectly then maybe that would be a good compromise?
@Demon_IV

11:11 you can't do that to the pick ups because the pool pieces are aligned with the strings (just like in a regular guitar) thats kind of pick ups are bigger to maintain that alignment on the inside while looking at an angle on the outside

Fully get the multiscale pickup thing! I bought a much lower spec multiscale 7 string to avoid having the 8 string soapbar EMGs. Ended up having to upgrade the pickups, electronics, but, saddles and tuners to get a compatible instrument, costing me £300 more than the guitar I could have bought.... But it was well worth it to have a nicer looking guitar 😂

One thing i would consider is if the neck matches with rest of the guitar. The first Ibanez has this. To me, blacked out guitars with rosewood (or other very bright brown) necks makes it look like a budget beginner guitar. If the guitar is black then i highly prefer it to have a fretboard that is black or dark. The other is the knobs not being in the way. I don't want the knobs to be in the way when i'm sweeping because it messes up my flow.
@shinokugt
@shinokugt 5 ай бұрын
I'm with 100% you, a black guitar with rosewood (or similar brown) fretboard looks cheap and the colors totally clash. That's why you don't see that combo in other examples of good design. It needs to be black (ebony or not), have some sort of interesting pattern (like natural macassar), or be a much lighter shade altogether (like maple, normal or roasted).
@IKilledTheDodo
@IKilledTheDodo 4 ай бұрын
I would change the fretboard on the Ibanez aswell. Either go full maple or something darker, like rosewood, ebony, etc. The brown wood they went for just looks like a sad inbetween option, which makes the whole thing look really cheap imo. On the LTD I would have chosen a regular, non-reversed headstock, because that headstock style reversed on a strat body just looks off balance to me. I know a lot of people love reversed headstocks, and I do on the right guitar aswell, but it does mess with the symetry on that one.

But does anyone realize that brands implement these designs on purpose, so that you can't buy a mid-range budget guitar and make it look high-end? It's the same with car brands. Look at mazda cx 30 and cx 90. Designs are supposed to differ by price range. This especially occurs to me when looking at the pickups and inlays - only lower budget guitars have these wide pickup ranges or dot inlays. Looking at kiesel, mayones, etc, they all got shorter pickups and either well designed inlays or none at all, which makes it look slick and neat. It's the prices nowadays that determine the look.

More companies should dye the fretboard! That ibanez is so ruined by that bright fretboard. doesnt need to black either. Colours exist, dear Ibanez😁 also instead of inlays there could be stains instead. There are ways to spice up that fretboar without the use of inlays. Personal preference: I dont dig naked guitar necks. They make guitars look incomplete from the back. Paint those necks, guitar builders. Obviously doesnt apply to multi piece necks! They look fine. apart from looks.. Companies should also try to make more 30 inch regular or 30-28 inch multiscale guitars, especially for 8 or 9 strings. 8 strings dont make any sense on 25.5 or 26.5 but are still made for reasons unknown, same for 9 strings, how is that low string supposed to have defiinition and proper tension on anything shorter than 28 or 29? also I think that whoever comes up with a proper multiscale pickups format, is going to be a rich man.

good points, but I disagree with the notion that you HAVE to play a 6 string before a 7. Its the same reason why I really dislike the advice people give to always start on acoustic first before electric. I think as a beginner, it doesn't matter at all what you start with because you'll be starting from 0 no matter what. A 7 string isn't any harder to learn than a 6 string, because beginners won't know the differences anyway. I think you should start on the instrument that speaks to you the most and gives you the best access to play your favorite songs and riffs as soon as possible, because imo the biggest barrier to entry for a new guitarist isn't the number of strings, its building up the motivation and perseverance to actually build a habit of playing and practicing every day. I think that becomes a lot easier when you are able to learn and play the songs that prompted you to pick up the instrument in the first place. I grew up listening to a lot of rock and metal, that's what inspired me to even consider learning guitar, and even playing the simplest rock riff on my first electric gave me way more joy than learning acoustic would have. Of course by now, I've grown to love and appreciate all types of guitars, but at the time my desire to play some crunchy power chords with high gain is what kept me interested in learning the instrument. I can totally see someone who grew up with 7 string metal/metalcore/djent stuff wanting to learn guitar specifically to play those types of songs. Even if they suck at it at first, just having the tools to work towards your goals helps a lot.

nah! most newbies probably doesnt even know that theres a 7 string guitar. and even if they do, they probably still pick up a 6 string guitar since most tutorials and learning stuff uses 6 strings, and since they dont know anything yet, theyd go with 6 string just because the teacher uses 6 strings. i mean i started learning guitar thru justin, and im still new to guitars. cant imagine seeing him teaching CAGE with a 7 string and be like ok guys! dont mind the extra string, heres how you do a G chord. lol!

@@BrUh-sj1pc nothing inherently is more or less difficult in a 7 string than a 6. It's just that 6 is more common. Which is a valid point. But my point is that people should learn what they want to play. The distinction, to a beginner, is meaningless. 6 strings are just as hard as 7 when you're starting from 0. The more important thing is to learn what you enjoy so you stay motivated to keep practicing, as a beginner.
@BrUh-sj1pc
@BrUh-sj1pc 5 ай бұрын
@@thevishyfishy youre only saying that cause you already know lotta stuff bout guitars. as a beginner, it matters that you start with a 6 cause it will be easier to understand. as a beginner i'll have a hard time looking for a tutorial bout basic chords on a 7. as a beginner i'll probably have a hard time muting some of the strings when playing a chord. as a what more having an extra string? it might actually make me drop the guitar and do somethin else. even if your idol, or the person who ispired you to play guitar uses a 7. it is still easier to learn from a 6. same with "start with an acoustic guitar" cause it easier to get one. just buy the cheapest one and learn tha basics. no need to look for an amp, pedal or any other extra stuff. as a beginner i'll grab the easiest fastest way to learn. also, why did you pick up a 6 string when you started?
@thevishyfishy
@thevishyfishy 4 ай бұрын
@@BrUh-sj1pc what if someone doesn't want to learn basic chords? Why does everyone have to follow the same path? They don't. Nothing about a 7 is more complicated than a 6 and no matter how much you argue about it, it's just the truth. It's only more complicated because we've all agreed that "6 should come first". Why? There's no reason for it. If someone just wants to learn Trivium riffs, they can start on a 7. I started on a 6 because I actually wanted to learn classic rock and classic metal. Only years later did I get into djent and 7 strings. The worst advice is to just start playing an instrument cause someone told you it should be "first". Hell no. People should learn on what inspires them.

I had played classical and 6 string electric a long time ago, but I really only started actually learning guitar seriously when I got an 8 string. However to be honest the fret markers really aren't that big of a deal in that regard anyway. I don't necessarily like no fret markers at all on the neck, I think it can look a bit too barren for certain guitars, but I definitely think that more companies should spice up the fretboard markers a bit, without going too crazy. I think fretboard markers in the middle look very vintage and if its a modern guitar it can look out of place to me

The problem with black screws is the black does not last. I have multiple guitars with black hardware, and when they get dirty and gross over time, it’s horribly noticeable.

(i have not watched the whoel video yet) my own personal problem with modern guitars is t he overbearing and extremely tiring SPAM of super strat and double cut guitars in general, if you are on the market for sth different lets sa with 24 frets a flatter fretboard and a trem you are basically screwd there are no star shaped guitars like this, no icemans, no MLs. idk i might be a little bit too picky but still there s no market for someone like me who wanta pontier guitar that isnt a V or an explorer that has some nice specs i get that most people have a horrible taste and like strats (lol sry i couldnt resist) but there s still a huuuuge market gap for people like me) dont tell me about bc rich pls, the y are not even available here in europe the only way i can vfind anything i like is to go full custom, aliexpress or lurk on reverb for eternity

Where do I even begin? * Anyone who is NOT Fender/Squier using dots...If you are NOT Fender/Squier, DON'T use dots. Ever. * Binding on ONLY the neck...Binding is an all or nothing affair. Bind the entire guitar, or not at all. * Flat plastic pickguards...At least do a pearloid, or imitation carbon fiber, or SOME design. * NON-painted headstocks...Seriously. Finish the guitar, and paint the headstock. * Using that stupid Gibson-style bridge and tailpiece...Seriously. This is 2024. Hipshot needs to be standard-issue across the board.

I understand it’s personal taste, but it makes me laugh seeing the inlays go away on all these

Ibanez's 7 string line up sucks. They are all boring. The gio guitars almost all look way better

Saying that you think they look boring is fine, but just saying “they all suck” is ridiculous lmao clearly they don’t. Half of the modern metal/heavier music type bands these days use them. I myself have never even owned one and I know that lol

@@a1paradox19 Yeah, the Ibanez line-up, atleast for me, always has at least one beauty that also fits spec wise. The only thing I'm sad about that their 8 strings look so heavy and the two row headstock is just not for me, sadly

Then I guess Jason Richardson shouldn’t be playing 7 strings then 😂

Standard dot inlays > offset inlays. Offset looks even cheaper. No inlays looks the best in most cases.

I disagree, personally. I love offset dots!
