Thanks for watching! What do you think of Ektar 100?

I know u made this in a while. I got one theory. I think the colors one get in film which are not exact like a dslr. Is because you need filters. Not everyone uses filters when using film. Digital cameras balances and temperature fits everything automatically. Film has fixed settings

If you scan by yourself you can influence in post how the colours look like. You can scan with a flat curve and increase the contrast and saturation in Lightroom.

For those who may not know, when Kodak stopped the production of Kodachrome, it met with huge uproar and negative feedback from those photographers who lamented the passing of probably the best ever transparency film. In 2008 Kodak introduced the present Ektar, not as replacement, as Ektar is a C41 process colour negative film, but the colour reproduction and the fine grain was said to be the closest to that of the standard Kodachrome, with the advantage of much wider exposure latitude. Having shot quite a lot of Kodachrome in my younger days, Ektar is not exactly a close mimick of Kodachrome but close enough. Portra, was actually designed for portrait and wedding photography with its huge latitude in maintaining highlights ( think of the bride's gown ) and producing beautiful skin tones, but within a slightly pastel palette. I used to use quite a lot of Kodak Vericolor VPS III-120 for portrait photography quite a while ago. Ektar is an amazing film but do not use it in very dull conditions, you won't be doing it justice. PS: If pastel is your cup of tea, then try the Portra 160.

in terms of ‘autumn’ colours, kodak gold performs fantastically in my experience. it is not saturated at all, super warm, and also affordable. not the finest grain but it’s amazing for daily photography. it also does surprisingly well in overcast weather

Films like Ektar and Velvia are better for dullish days and when natural colours are a bit muted as they make the colours pop and add some contrast. If the colours are already vibrant then they may end up rendering the scene too garish.

In my opinion Ektar is only second to Vision 3 50 D or 250D, stocks I love. Thank you for this review. Regards from Brazil.

Where I live Ektar 100 has the same price as the Portra 400 so I can’t aford either, but kodak gold 200 is half the price so its ok

Great vid! With your point about the warm autumnal tones you shoot with digital- what’s your go to film for 35mm to capture that? Many thanks!

great video, however the music that you chose abruptly cuts every so often and it's distracting to the points that you're making.

I think that for someone who got into colour film photography recently, you got very far fast. I love ektar, but cinematic it is not. Much too vibrant and excellent for more tropical environments. If I should ever go to your country again, I would only take Portra, subdued and a lot faster.
