So, I've meal prepped on and off for years & my advice is to cook in stages. Cook any slow cooked (baked or braised) meats/proteins first, next cut all produce & cook what needs to be cooked and set aside. Next get any grains cooking while you prepare any sauces. Last, cook any quick cook meats (minced meat or chicken strips etc) & then assemble meals from the different elements. It's good to choose meals with overlapping ingredients because it saves you so much time, but don't make them to similar or you'll get bored. Make sure any cooked ingredients are completely cooled before you put the cover on & put it in the fridge or freezer. (I actually let everything cool before I start building individual meals so I can pop them directly into the fridge as I get them done.) Don't add toppings & garnishes until you eat them & wait to cut up fruit (unless freezing, like with your smoothies). For the first few times, expect to spend 4-5ish hours on meal prep until you get into your own rhythm-or even more, depending on what you're making & figure out what order to make things in to reduce down time in between! You did great, Jazzy!! Thanks for sharing your world with us!

Rather than "meal prep" for a week, I batch cook. There's only me and my hubby, but I bought a family size slow cooker. Then every month I will do a big pot of chilli, a big Bolognese (sauce not pasta), shepherd's pie meaty section, and a curry sauce. Once they cool down, I portion everything into two or single portion. I use ziplock bags (I also wash and reuse these when I can). On the day we pick a bag from the freezer and reheat and make fresh pasta, rice or mashed potatoes. With the curry sauce we add veggies, chicken, seafood, fish...whatever our choice of the day is. So I end up with about 4 "cooking days" and once everything is in the slow cooker, it's just forget it for the day and freeze it the next morning and redo another dish in the slow cooker. This came in SUPER handy last year as I was rushed into hospital and the ICU. I had Sepsis and multi organ failure, I bought the farm 3 times and was able to be resusitated thankfully. I was in hospital for 6 weeks, my husband was able to feed himself and then look after me when I got home (I was on bed rest, had a picc line for fluids and antibiotics for another 6 weeks and then "house arrest" medical care for a further 6 weeks. I was just able to go back out on January, when suddenly the world turned to 💩 and I was warned to go back into house arrest/shielding mode. I have not left the house since February!! My husband was even able to recreate some of the dishes in the slow cooker (with supervision) he said having those meals just in the freezer was a massive help. Maybe try doing some batch cooking, it's a lot less stressful. It's good for this time of year too as it is good mainly comfort type food, best enjoyed in a big bowl while curled up watching a movie. NB: While typing this my husband just reminded me I make beef stew and risotto in the slow cooker to freeze too.

My husband and i meal prep every Sunday. He cuts up everything for me, while I'm cooking and putting everything together, it is easier with a second set of hands. Im a true believer in prepping a meal then putting it into the freezer because if you change your mind and want something different, it doesnt go bad. I only do, three to four meals but we double some of them for lunches. I dont make separate meals for lunches. Maybe next time, try just breakfast and supper.

We meal prep every Sunday for the week (mon-fri) and never freeze anything it just goes in the fridge. So much easier when you have been working all day to just heat things up. We always cook rice and pasta fresh though unless we have leftovers that we use for lunch. You will get into it, you will still only tolerate it on the weekend but be pleased with yourself through the week that you have done it! Good luck!! xx

As someone who has to meal prep for an entire week, for myself plus 2 others. Snack items you can keep on deck, like yogurt and fruit will help you the most. Chicken and most meats you can season ahead, let them marinate then cook them all at once. Keep things like potatos, rice, frozen vegetables on hand.

I love meal prep! What helps me is instead of doing one week at a time I make a months worth so I only have to prep that meal once a month. Breakfast burritos and sandwiches freeze great for a month. Then smoothie/ dinner mixes as well last a pretty long time. Then I will do any dry or wet mixes ahead of time in bags or containers so you can just dump the pre measured amounts in for your overnight oats, pancakes/crape batter, egg mixture, dressings, etc. when you are prepping the next week. It makes everything feel alot faster and easier.

Meal prep is my thing. Been doing it for over a year now. I love cooking though lol. With your veg, as soon as you get home from the shops, chop it all up and store it in either the fridge or freezer. Same with meat. Then when you're ready to prep it all, everything is sliced ready to go then re freeze it all. Meal prepping usually takes me about 4 hrs and that's chop and Cook. I usually do about 6 meals that gives us about a months worth. The more you do it, the quicker it is :)

Hi!!! I do meal preps and something that helps me is not making a different meal each day....try to repeat so you only cook 3 differents meal. Also something really important is that after you finish cooking, let the meal really cold down, even put them inside the fridge without cover them so they are really cold and them you can close them. If you close them before it will sweat and add more moisture to your meal, specially to veggies

Put your onion in the freezer for about 30 mins before cutting. (Cut all your veggies at once and then you add as needed. Instead of cutting up each meal.)💜 Hard to say what went wrong with the 2nd week prep since couldn't see. But you'll figure out as you do it, what works and what needs to be done fresh. *Make a something like roast/chicken in the crockpot and eat for one meal and use leftovers for weekly meals. Leftovers are a great way to make your lunches, etc... for the week. You're doing great darlin. The more you do it, the faster and better you'll get. 💜

Do 1 thing at a time, it isn't as overwhelming. Its your 1st time prepping. Once you've done it a few times, you'll get better at it. Usually when meals/food sits, the flavor sets in. I usually like leftovers or after food has sat for a day or so. A funnel works great for filling jars n things with smaller openings.

I do a little bit of meal prep. I live alone so I cook a meal I don’t mind eating later in the week. Sometimes it’s in the slow cooker sometimes cooked like normal. I do roasts with gravy or chicken with gravy in the slow cooker then pop rice in the rice cooker after I get home from work while I change or do some other chores. I know lots of people who meal prep for their big meal of the day and then make something simple for the others. Example toast and instant oats for breakfast, a sandwich wrap for lunch and roast with potatoes and veg for dinner. Roast was meal prepped on weekend and others made morning of

Try jar salads! They last for five days in the fridge as long as you fill the jars and don't put lettuce in. Put the wettest ingredients at the bottom and layer them. I do tomatoes, cucumber, sweetcorn, beetroot, spring onions. Then it's just a case of doing some couscous/jacket potato/fish eff to go with it. X

Hi, I have been doing meal prep for a few years now. I don't do all meals for a week, only lunch or dinner or a few elements of both. I also find it easier to do less variety of meals for the week. So for example I regularly make a vegetable soup for lunch (enough for 4 or 5 days) and grilled chicken salad for dinner. I would make both the soup and the chicken ahead, and on the day make the salad fresh, then add reheated chicken. This reduces time, although I still take around 4 hours to do all the cooking and cleaning. Hope this helps, video was fun to watch and entertaining.

My fiancé and I meal prep every Sunday. We only focus on lunches so last week it was chicken salads with a boiled egg and feta, I had peaches and oats for breakfast while he had two eggs and half a avocado. This week we might have something like chicken cashew mix with rice and same kind of breakfasts. For diners we have Hello Fresh so it’s portioned diners that get sent to us every weekend with the exact amount of ingredients needed for each meal so I still cook those fresh every night but at lest I don’t have to worry about lunches as they are all set and ready to go. Gotta start off small and work your way up otherwise it’s all to overwhelming

Meal prep gets faster the more you do it. The first time I did it I was in the kitchen for HOURS. You learn little tricks and stuff. I use my oven, slow cooker and my instant pot when I meal prep. I rarely use the stove. I also use my rice cooker. I try to plan meals that use some of the same ingredients so I only have to prep one or two proteins and a couple of sides. Usually veg. And I do easy stuff for breakfast. Like burritos or sandwich. Baked oatmeal etc. I also bought told to make sure faster. Food chopper and a processor have made things so much faster lol. It only takes me 3 to 4 hours max and usually much less than that.

Jazzy have a few suggestions about your food prep. Instead of doing a full week of meals split them up by four and three . I thing to remember about putting fresh fruit and veg in the freezer is that it will be mushy when you take it out and thaw it. What happens is the cells freeze slowly and then burst . The first and veg that are bought frozen are flash frozen that is why they are not mushy. If you take the flash frozen and completely thaw and then refreeze it will come out mushy. My suggestion is to make fewer days of meals and with the fruits and veg in the fridge. Watching the video you ate the salmon and Veg the first day that is why the veg tasted good. I would guess the second time was frozen before eating the asparagus would be very mushy after cooking and then freeze and then reheat. Do some experiments with my advice and see if it helps. Happy cooking!

Well done Jazz, it is so hard when you first start meal prepping. I usually start with the dinners because they usually need to be in the oven the longest. Then do grains, and finish with breakfast (overnight oats that last 4 days). I will put my lunches in one container and divide it into my bento box the night before. Pre-chopping or slicing all your veges is a time saver too, yes you will end up with like 10 bowls of different veges but it saves waiting when you have started. I love meal prep because i do not have energy to cook after 8 hours working with 10 children under the age of 2.

It's a good idea to use the same base for a few if the meals in a week. Say, have lasagne, spag bol etc, you can cook the mince with sauce for both in the same pot. Can do something called dump bags. Where you prep stuff, stick it in a sandwich bag and freeze it. You will learn how to make it more efficient

I suggest a food processor so you can quickly cut your veg, shred your cheese etc. Also either an instant pot or a slow cooker so you can put a meal in it (like a bolognese sauce) and while it cooks, you can do other things. I cook 12 eggs at a time in my instant pot (steamed eggs in the shell) so my husband can have a quick egg for breakfast. Just an idea I've done and it you don't taste it: to make your smoothie more filling you can add a few Tbsp of cooked beans (any kind, but I like black or pinto beans) or uncooked oats.

Honestly, I do it in "large" batches. So for example, I do bolognese for 8 people, that doesn´t mean that I will just be eating bolognese that week, but it´s in the freezer and can be used for pasta, lasagna, etc. Same with chicken, instead of doing one in the oven I do 3 or 4 then cut them up and freeze them. Oh! And stews are great for freezing all from beef Bourguignon to lentil dal. The great thing with "my way" is that because you freeze them in single portions, every person can choose what they fancy, for example, I want wheat berries with my chicken but my bf wants rice. P.S. My latest aha moment is that you can freeze homemade pie dough

Meal prepping is always hard to start. But the more you do it you'll get used to it and get your own little system going. TIP: some meals are better prepare ahead (veggies chopped, meat seasoned for example) but cooked on the day you eat it

My tips - I meal prep for one. 1. Generally, I like to prep my veg meaning, I like to cut carrots, onions, radishes, spring onion, etc. For prettying up the plate and adding quick flavor on top of the food. Have these in little containers and add on top of meals. 2. I like to make containers of rice, pasta, or wraps, etc and have that in the fridge. Then I use whatever leftover mince, bolognaise, ham, veg, anything, and build a wrap or poke bowl (best simple idea that you can just chuck different foods onto) and make that. Add in some fruit or seeds to spice up the bowl. 3. My advice would be to make your bolognaise 'to share' but make extra in the container and put it into a smaller container after serving, that way you have a bit of mince to add to another dish like a wrap or bun. basically... after seeing what I've written, I prefer to PREP my food, to make it easier to cook or throw into a wrap, poke bowl, garbage bowl, etc. Hope that helps!

Only halfway through, to the point where you question if its for you. I do not think meal prep is for everybody to be fair! I also think it can mean different things to different people. I think trying to do everything (all meals, wow!) must have been overwhelming but you did it and that is an accomplishment! Maybe just do brekie, or lunch or pre dinner prep next time! Here in the states I do a lot of dump and go (braise style) or pre prep style meals (pre cut, so dinner is JUST the cooking phase) because it takes a lot of the stress away from meals without compounding it all into one moment.

I think meal prepping can be overwhelming if you make 3 meals, when it can be much easier to prep depending on your needs, like only breakfast and lunch to take to work and the dinner would be a simple thing to cook. Also I agree with others regarding the big batch cooking because many sauces can go in the freezer and be used in several dishes and is less overwhelming.

If u add a little cream, some cheese, garlic, salt and veggies or crumbled bacon to eggs whisk together ... add to greased muffin tins and u get egg bites!!

Get yourself an Instant Pot! They're scary at first, but I use mine almost every day now because they're so quick and I don't have to stand and watch everything cooking. They make meal prep a bit faster too (especially if you are a pressure cooker hoarder like myself and have 3 😵🤣)

Here's a hack to make cutting onions with out crying. Peal the onion, cut both ends off, wrap with foil and place in the refrigerator for about 3 hours. It works every time.

Do you have a slow cooker? If so you can make 2 meals at the same time (e.g. curry +bolognese) by putting all the ingredients in to a roasting bag and putting both in to the solw cooker at the same time, I've done this made a total of 8 meals in one go (4 portions of each) and little washing up afterwards!

If you're doing it on Saturday, leave in the fridge Saturday, Sunday and Monday meals, the rest in the freezer. I think, take out Tuesday meal on Monday to defrost if needed.

Try peeling the onion and then running the onion under water before cutting it - helps a lot!

Try doing recipes that share one ingredient, like a few chicken recipes or ground beef, that way you can cook the meat together and portion out. For instance, cook ground beef and then use some in spaghetti sauce and some in chili, etc. That might help cut down time prep also Maybe just focus on lunches and dinners and don't worry about breakfasts, or start with any two meals and do the third at the time.
