Please don't support BetterHelp. They're in trouble with the FTC for pushing patients to submit unrelated health information and breaching their privacy. Services like this are also very shallow and no comparison to a proper therapist, especially when it isn't really any cheaper.

Yes. South African living in the uk. I travel often for work to the US. Portion size in the US is really large. I love the food but hate the waste I end up not eating. My culture is that you eat everything on your plate. That just does not work in the US. lol. Some places in the UK are also the same. Especially Sunday lunches. Fine dining is better but pricy. In any case, US has the best food.

that rice for the eel punked us all. Though, I can't it's surprising. Imagine it being some kind of soy or fried rice paired with the fatty salty and sweet eel. That's overkill and Japanese tend to know how to balance their flavors

tonkatsu is easy to make at home if you're okay with deep frying! just be sure to pound the pork chop before to make it tender. Unagi you have to buy, lol
@jadelynn1703
@jadelynn1703 11 ай бұрын
@@skengels I might try to make tonkatsu someday, but deep frying does make me nervous haha. No where near where I live sells unagi, but I will travel a couple hours away eventually to try it at a sushi place. Have you tried unagi? Is it as tasty as KZbin makes it seem?
@skengels
@skengels 11 ай бұрын
@@jadelynn1703 if you use a pan with sides about 3 inches high (like a cast iron skillet) and a bit of oil (like 3/4 of an inch) it’s less scary and uses less oil too! If you’re good with wooden chopsticks, they’re actually the best for deep frying because they don’t rip the batter off like tongs can and you can check the temperature of the oil with them (press one end of the chopstick onto the bottom of the pan, the temp is good when little tiny bubbles come out). When you put the meat or veg into the pan, lay it down away from you, towards the wall or whatever, that way any splatter goes away from you. Tonkatsu batter is: -season the meat with salt and pepper -thin layer of flour -dunk in mixed egg (no water or milk needed, leftover egg can be microwaved for the dog lol) -plop into panko and press to make sure it’s well coated. I get thin cut boneless pork chops and pound the sh*t out of them so they’re nice and soft, also cook very fast, like 3-4 mins per side. If the outer is pretty dry without water you shouldn’t get much splatter at all! Lol, YES the eel is SO good 🥴. Definitely worth making a trip for!!

Katsudon Chiyomatsu was quite literally the best meal I've had in Japan (I've only been to Japan once though, but I went to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka). It's crazy to say that a bowl of fried pork over rice is the best meal I've had in a country known for their beef and seafood, but this Katsudon was really that good. The 1.5 hours queue was worth it!

Price-wise, better to order several side dishes. That makes enough portions and about $5 cheaper than those restaurants. An unusual thing about Japan compares to other countries, buying big portions doesn't cut the price but is way more expensive.

These portions aren't uncommon in America, which wouldn't be a problem by itself, but us folk in American are pretty much all forced to drive cars to get around instead of being able to walk. Eating stuff this high in calories is pretty harmless if you can also burn the calories off. God, I'm so jealous of countries with good public transportation that are relatively safe to walk around in. 😓
