After 4k hours in rimworld, watching you discovering basic mechanics is quite satisfying. I recomend you replace walls with stone blocks so your buildings are fireproof from thr outside though, and avoid pyromaniacs.

Also, when the ambusher kidnapped your colonist you were not able to hit them because they had a cover (stone chunk). Next time I recommend backing up and using cover yourself (wall, chunk, doors, tree).

imo, pyromaniac is fine as like as you can draft someone nearby to follow them around and put out the fire.

From what I've experienced, rain always comes when there's enough fire regardless of the story-teller. I think the game is just designed to do that to prevent lag when the fire gets too big.

Heres a helpful tip: Cover is key to winning shoot-outs. 8:02 that enemy likely won the 2v1 because she was directly behind a source of cover (stone block) which provides 50% reduced chance of being hit, on top of your low shooting skill. Walls provide best cover (75%) followed by sandbags & barricades (55%) and then those stone blocks give 50% and can be found everywhere.

Everybody loves Randy, this is the true spirit of Rimworld and almost. There's a reason why almost everone uses Randy. Phoebe is supposed to be friendly, she won't send raids very often, but because of how Rimworld works, if one event can't trigger another one takes its place. That leads to Phoebe slowly torturing You with plagues and natural disasters instead.

First video i saw in your channel, good video, tips from someone with almost 3k hours, play vanilla until you are bored, them use mods especially super game changing mods like Combat extended, avoid piromaniacs and slow learners like the plague, dont build out wood unless you have tribal start and cant make stone, make a bigger farm since your map have winter so you can stockpile food for said winter, try using the better weapons in the better shooters and see the efective range of each gun, using a rifle from almost melee is worst them using if from far away, use cover, using a bolder/chunk or tree is better then just standing still, always fight near your base, wait for the raiders instead of going after them, you would be closer to you bed and cover and they would need more time to bleed out, break down or drop thing or people they are trying to steal. And last but not least important, components are almost always a bottle neck if you are not careful using them early game. Bonus: good that you are getting use to make caravans early, but don't send everyone unless you have a way of defending your base, what is the point of going out and getting scraps if when you comeback your base is going to be ashes? Great video honestly, but like someone else said, vanilla combat isn't that good. Personally i would suggest getting the Combat Extended mod, although the ammo system can be sometimes annoying (fortunately you can turn it off). I certainly will be waiting for more Rimworld videos

As nearly as I can tell, Phoebe and Cassandra are the same, except for the frequency of events. Phoebe has fewer events. This can result in some surprises, though, because your colony wealth is likely to increase more between each event, and colony wealth determines (for all the storytellers, including Randy) how difficult certain events are. With that observation in mind, an important aspect of colony management is to avoid accumulating wealth that doesn't contribute productively to the colony. A warehouse full of drugs, as an example, will make raids more difficult, but it's unlikely to be useful in countering those raids when they show up at your doorstep. Your colony doesn't appear to have this problem, but as you become more experienced with RimWorld gameplay, you'll inevitably have choices to make along those lines.

@@WaylonYT A warehouse full of drugs is just an example. A warehouse full of food, textiles, or weapons dropped by raiders can also arise naturally and increase the power of raids. Personally, I'm a bit of a hoarder in game, and that's a bad habit RimWorld makes you suffer for. When you see a trader full of "junk" come by, you should definitely not be reluctant to dump stuff you haven't clearly identified a use for. That "good" granite sculpture may not seem like a good deal, but buying it at a loss will reduce your wealth and save your colonists having to labor to produce it in the future. Drugs themselves are actually pretty useful, particularly as a trade commodity and as support for certain themed playthroughs. You do have to watch the mental breaks, but I noticed you kept the pyromaniac, so you should know all about problematic playthroughs.

6:48 Thats actually how the game is coded, if theres a big fire for a while on the map the game will force rain, no matter the storyteller or difficulty. This is to prevent entire map and Your CPU from burning.

Randy has nothing to do with either the amount of pyros available in the world, nor them starting fires. Traits commonality percentages are determined by the seed you use when you generate a world, and pyros start fires when their mood Is low. If anything Randy gave you a hand with that rain., Phoebe would have just done nothing and let you deal with it on your own. God bless Randy.

no shame in community builder dude definitely move to stone as soon as you can, i tend to do it when i get the basics of electricity down because by then I'd have the resources and time, anddd you need to account for the Zzzz.. event also, tip: geothermal power best power, it's totally worth it to build a small outpost of sorts around it if you have no steam geysers around. another addition: i have 500 odd hours in rimworld and i found Ted Nipples's (i'm not kidding) 44 rimworld tips and tricks video VERY VERY useful! god please check him out lol, it'll save you a headache EDIT: thought i should add im so looking forward to part 2!!!!!!!

My immediate response upon seeing this video was "Oh you poor bastard". So, if you ever make a return to rimworld, here's some suggestions: Firstly, for mods, Quality builder, Allow Tool, Replace Stuff, and Realistic rooms. Everything outside of these three is largely up to personal taste, but they just add so much QoL that I can't go back to playing rimworld without them. Secondly, DLC buy order: Royalty, Biotech, Ideology, and then Anomaly. They're all overpriced and never go on sale, but that's the order they'll affect the game most in. Royalty if you want to do extensive modding. Damn near every decent mod needs royalty. It adds psionics, royal titles, a great number of more quests, and an alternative win condition. Biotech is reccomended to be grabbed instead of royalty if you don't play with many mods yet, since it affects your game more itself. It adds genetics, alternative species, mechs that you can control, boss fights, children, and pollution. Ideology seems like it'd affect your game the most, but you only really interact with it at the beginning or every great once in a while depending on settings. It just adds ideologies and a few tidbits for them. Basically, it allows you to adjust the things your pawns like, dislike, and actively engage in without having to micromanage each individual pawn. I mostly list it third because royalty and biotech will do the most to improve the base experience, where as ideology gives you alternative experiences. And then there's anomaly. Basically rimworld lobotomy corporation. More or less just adds a challenge mode with some fun bits to play around with. I don't reccomend it higher because it's the newest, so it's going to affect your mod experience the least. It also changes the game the least, since you have to actively interact with it in order to see everything it offers. Where as the others can change your game completely and are more active with messing with you.

Honestly vanilla combat is super clunky and unsatisfying, its one of the few things I don't like about Rimworld. Watching gameplay without Combat Extended or Yayo's Combat felt super weird to me
