I have been shooting sports photography in JPEG for years, and have gotten great results. Yes, the new cameras are a little more “stretchy" than the older cameras when it comes to editing JPEGs (there was a big difference when I went from a Nikon D750 to a D850 aside from the fact of the more megapixels). I usually shoot my landscapes in RAW format, but will do a shoot in JPEG to see the difference. I have not put myself in one of my shots yet....that is for another time. Great video, thank you.

For me it's not about affordability. I want to get the shot in the camera, just like shooting slides back in the '90s, although I always shoot RAW as insurance. That's one reason I love the curve adjustments in my cameras (OM-D). For me, a RAW converter (in my case DxO) is plenty, if I ever use it. Digital should be liberating. I would really like to see a modern codec like JP2K or something like that. JPEG is fine, but JP2K or similar would make RAW completely unnecessary. IMHO.

I don't think the code for jpeg has changed or else it would not be universally accessible. What has changed are the post processing algorithms which can kind of restore things after the decoding. Just like every software maker has their "look" based on the kind of raw file, they do the same for jpeg based on their taste and the camera maker even if they kind of write between the lines to make it look better.

There's certainly a case for shooting JPG; especially if you don't edit your photos. BUT: every time you save a JPG file, it degrades the quality and you can never revert it to the original. If you edit and save it twenty or thirty times, you'll lose a noticeable amount of image quality.

Hey James, you can use the viewfinder for me, you’re standing in front of the view and describing it then you show us the photo afterwards anyway. You don’t half make the whole process of setting up shots of yourself riding your bike look easy, I always assumed that when I saw photos of action shots it was someone else taking the photo. Never entered my mind it was done the way you do it. I’d quite happily watch another editing video next by the way. Would there be any chance of a more in depth print related video in the future please? I’m looking at grabbing a printer later this year and that would be super useful to me at least.
