Assuming you and Ashens aren't already planning this, you should do a "Will it Ravioli?" video, both with viewer/Patron suggestions on top of at least a couple of ideas you two think up. I can only imagine the normal sounding and unorthodox filling suggestions people would think up, especially given this cook book recipe exists.

People that want to sell beans 😂 The problem is that bakedbeans make all these recipes worse, not better. Heinz should focus on quick, dirty recipes for when you’re drunk or fancy comfort food. The sauce, whilst being nostalgic, is too processed and synthetic tasting to add to anything without tasting vile. That ravioli filling with the goats cheese, Parmesan and some chopped walnuts would have been infinitely better and a much more intelligent use for freshly made pasta.

@wildgooseman70472 жыл бұрын
What's interesting about baked beans in the UK they all use the same suppliers. The main difference between supermarket economy brands and those from regular supermarket brands upwards will be the actual bean. The basic/saver level will use beans from Africa. The others are mostly from America. While it's the biggest brand Heinz has a recipe that uses more sugar/salt and less spices than most other brands making it one of the cheaper varieties on the market. The mark up on them is massive.

Were church fundraiser cookbooks with recipe contributions from all the church ladies a thing in the UK in the 80s and 90s like they were in the US? I collect them because they are so delightfully quirky. I'd love to see you cook from one of them!

I love those! I have a great one from a church on an Army base, there are a couple joke recipes like Elephant Stew (using a whole elephant, optional a couple rabbits if there’s not enough meat 😂) & some great little stories scattered through. I get so excited when I find them at flea markets or thrift stores.

Not a popular thing in the 80s or 90s where I live down SE England. There's only one church(I know of) in my area and I don't remember many "non religious events" like fundraisers or fair sales going on growing up, I only know it gets used for Sunday services and toddler groups (in the church hall next door). Mind you, I only went to that church now and then when I was in primary school, never went when not at school as I'm not religious / non religious family. Those cookbooks by the church ladies sounds interesting though, had to google it and take a look, the recipes as you say, look quirky and fun! It would certainly make a great video!

Erm...I won't say how many tins of beans I have in my cupboard. 😳 They are handy for a cheap and hearty meal. I put half a tin of baked beans into either an oversized cappuccino mug or a deep bowl, a very light sprinkle of dried red pepper flakes, top that with a portion of frozen mash potatoes. I then pop it into the microwave for 5 minutes. Afterwards, I top it with a nice layer of grated mature cheddar and in for another 2 minutes. After the obligatory 2 minutes wait you can dig in. It's the kind of stick to your ribs dish that singe diners can keep warm with on minus degree nights. 😊

UK vs US Heinz Beans are so different. In the US they are ultra sweet and packed with meat "bits". The sauce in the US is less tomato and more savoury. This is why the US can't (and vehemently criticise) beans on toast. I think in the US they use Hunters Beans which I enjoy abroad and ignore that the genes were altered by a scientist
