God, I never realized how much I missed double tank until this came out. It was honestly so much fun. Like I played a lot of Winston zarya, and it was great. Winston, zarya, Reaper, and they just dove support while I bubbled whoever needed it. Top tier. When I went back to normal 1 tank, it was incredibly boring. The synergy tanks have really made overwatch what it was, and I never realized that. Like yea, you can have synergy with a tank and dps/support. But that shit don't hit the same like tank synergy. Really improved my hope for 6v6 when it comes back next season.

WHich is why it was better before that added role queue into open role. YOu could have 5 tanks or 5 dps if you wanted, now you're locked to a role if you don't instantly pick. At that point just go play role queue

Yeah this first test feels like a waste of resources, because it feels like it got the worst of both worlds. You can still be locked out of the role you want, like in role queue, only now it's a silly "who clicks faster" dynamic. But you can still have wildly discordant and mismatched team comps going up against each other.

I’m having a lot of fun with it, having another tank in the format is fun. But it’s really obvious which tank players have been around since overwatch 1 and which have only ever known 5v5. It has been fun experimenting with the new tanks, ones who have never really been in a 2 tank format like Ram and Queen. Figuring out how they fit in the dual tank dynamic.

There's obviously more tweaking that would need to go into the mode and I'm excited to play kingmaker and the other tests, but playing Doom /wrecking ball duos was the hardest I've laughed in this game in years.

During the discussion of role queues, I do agree with preferring it more. Because this game has gotten more competitive, I feel adding in role queue is necessary evil for better experience. Like Emongg said, it feels more structured rather than loosely and messy. Anywho, good to see Flats and Emongg duo again. Just like the old times! I love seeing you both playing tanks together!

I been playing a lot of open q since I got back ow2. Flats is absolutely right, tanks players have COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN how to combo tank abilities. The amount of times I’ve screamed at my friends playing rein when they back after I bubble them. Had a friend literally say I can’t see the bubble, like it’s not a big blue wave that covers ur whole screen

You don’t have double tank, you loose, no double support, you loose. I’m not even joking. Those denying this are in denial. 6v6 is now required to make DPS a viable role, because using double DPS is a near instant loss in 5v5 hacked… and it’s not even close 90% of the time. You WILL get pubstomped with double DPS.

in my experience even when you don't get a double dps lineup & actually have 2 tanks & 2 supp, the supp run the game entirely. tanks having reduced HP but still have the increased hitboxes just breaks their survivability. if the other team has competent support & your team is running zen lucio you're almost always screwed, bc the team has no sustain for either of the tanks

Tank combos are great, but I don't like the flexibility to change between roles. In paper, this is a good thing, but if you play solo and see everytime the support changing to dps it's awful. That's why I love Role Queue.

Imagine if got automatically assigned the role based on your performances on specific heroes in specific roles. Like if the game widely sees I usually play support good then it will auto queue me as a support, and it queues me with people who are good at being dps and tank

Not everyone chooses to play 5 tanks. Not everyone enjoys playing tank in any setting. Those 5v5 tank lobbies must be really rare. All this mode does is ensure someone is picking support. The issue is that they just slapped this on with the open queue balance, so if you run one tank, that one tank has a lower healthpool than they would in regular role queue.

At least 75% of my games have been Doomfist players jumping into a Hog/Orisa/Zen/Ana backline, dying immediately, flaming the team, and rage quitting. It's not even that I want them to swap, necessarily, I just don't see how that can be any fun for a sane human being. I get Doom is technically more viable in this compared to previous Open Queue, but not THAT viable.

It's not really about tanks being good on a individual level, it's more about synchronizing their utility and cooldowns. The health decrease only really hurts if you're used to being a glorified meat shield. If you are working well with your other tank then its amazing, but when you're both off playing death match then you're going to get rolled.

The 150 hp change affects different tanks differently, which is important to note, I've seen plenty of diamond to masters Doomfist and JQ players in my games getting absolutely steamrolled in this mode because they just don't account for the hp nerf. Meanwhile wrecking ball players have been having an absolute field day because the hp change barely makes a dent in his effective hp pool. I'm sure they'll introduce some form of blanket nerfs when 6v6 comes back, but idk if 150 hp will go down well with the community. A lot of people will feel like their mains got unfairly shafted.
