In a recent video I was introduced to the concept of securing pin curls with toothpicks. This sparked my interest as well as yours, so today we're going to try it out. Let's see how this works!

It makes sense! Toothpick pincurls are just tiny hairstick buns, if you think about it. If you can hold up an entire chignon with a pencil, why not a pincurl with a toothpick?

A HA when I wash my hair it’s really smooth and if I brush it out really straight, I can hold my hair up with a single stick as well. It’s actually quite easy you just twist it around the stick, twist the stick, stab through the bun you’ve created through the twisting and voila you have what I call a stick bun! Although I now do only the top layer of my hair in a stick bun because I have a bob and the hair at the bottom will fall out anyway plus it makes me look more like my favorite character Main from Ascendance of a Bookworm who also does the half up half down stick bun.

Suggestion: to make it safer, for children for example, you could add the wig cap and remove the toothpicks before bed. It looked like it hold up before you took the cap off. Just an idea that came to mind. I really like the results 😊

I've been pin-curling my hair for over a decade, how have I never heard of this before? I'm trying this asap! EDIT: Your curls probably looked better because you started with the loop at the end and rolled it all up to your scalp without twisting this time - it's more fiddly, but it keeps all of the ends inside and gives a smoother result and more even curl.

Those white pins with ridges doen the stick? My mom used tgem to hold those prickly brush/coil spring curlers. She would set my hair before holidays, it was awful for a 4-5 year old, but at least I got to stay up an hour past bedtime while she did that to me.

As someone who does hairstick buns every day, the toothpick curls make perfect sense to me. The tension holds the hair together, rather than pins or clips which essentially pinch everything tight to where it can't move. It was really fun to see your reaction! 😆

Aaahhhhh you looked so cute with curls!! As someone with naturally curly hair, I highly approve (so take my sub lol). I'm tempted to try this out on my hair since my curls are like looser ringlets, but with it being down to my waist and a tendency to be frizzier in the back it'll make it harder to keep the curls from slipping and still look good. If it does indeed last a few days looking stunning I'll do it anytime I have to go out somewhere, I don't mind taking the 30-60 minutes, lol.
