I agree 4c hair grows better when its stretched. It doesn't have to be with heat but keeping it stretched at least 80% of the time (with or without heat) will help dentangle process and its better for child less matting. My baby girl hair is arm pit / midback length at 3years old but it shrink to her ears. If I let her hair shrinks that much it will be a matted mess. I love the look of puff balls on her her but its not beneficial for 4c hair in its natural state because of hair wrapping back around itself.
