Did Taekwondo as a kid and although we never broke bricks, we would break wood and breaking boards often. I often struggled with it but my instructor always told me to imagine my hand going through the board, not at it. It looks like they are stopping their force at the brick which is causing it to not break.

Im a martial artist who has watched people break bricks quite a few times and there are a few tips ive been given 1. Soak the brick. It’s damn near impossible to break a brick with your bare hand unless you’re a strongman and have already developed calluses on your fist/palm 2. Wear a hand wrap. This will protect your hand from any further damage, stabilize your wrist and allow you to hit harder without being afraid of blood 3. Aim for the floor, not the brick. If you just think of hitting the brick, you wont break it. You need to aim THROUGH the brick and almost think of your target being the floor but you cant hit the floor until you’ve gotten past the brick Hope this helps ✌️

The thing is, you have to go full strength, and that's really scary because if the brick doesn't break, you can hurt your hand quite badly. I trained in martial arts for a few years, brick punches were the best to condition knuckles. You start with bare knuckling a bag, increase to a stiff bag. After about 3 months your knuckles if rested properly should be about as hard as aluminum. Continue onto about a year with wood boards and bricks, ive seen people punch stacks of bricks stacked 5 or 6 high and came out with no redness or scratches. The hand bones, muscle tissues, and ligaments actually respond really good to blunt resistance, it's all about conditioning and how you land the hit.

@Lord Curry III knuckle push ups and knuckle stands for calisthenics isn't a bad hand and wrist building tool to use. Doing dead hangs, Hercules holds, or any long term hold exercise for ligament and muscle strength surrounding hands and wrists. As for telling whether your knuckles are healed and ready for further conditioning, I typically do one day on, two days off of rest. Once you get the point where you'll be able to tell your muscle tendon and bone strength improving, your bones will be healing impact fragmentation virtually overnight. Swelling at first is normal, bruising is not and means you aren't evenly impacting the hits, work on punching form. Use ice for 5 minutes after every round, and then soak your hand immediately in room temperature water. It reduces inflammation by ice and then encourages red cell and marrow healing by bringing back quickly to a normal temperature not using too hot of water. Honey is a good substance to use while building any type of bone or tissue structure. It's antioxidant rich, antimicrobial, antibacterial to the point of it being comparable to penicillin in general protection, and is a natural sugar that helps regulate your blood sugars and cholesterol levels which is detrimental to bone healing. Manufactured sugars and sweetener lowers your metabolism and makes healing noticeably quicker. I could go on but those are really the basics.

Hey, I took taekwondo and we usually used a towel or two just so you don't hurt your hands as much. Usually you have to use your index or middle finger knuckles to hit the brick in the center. There is also a mindset you need to be in to be able to put your full force into it, since you will unintentionally not use full force, since your body knows it will damage itself. Hope it helps, but if you don't get it, know the people in those videos have probably had proper training for this.

My best tip is to not stop at the brick like you were doing. Instead you have to go all the way through it. Imagine you are trying to hit something behind the brick, not the brick itself or you will bounce off the brick , losing a lot of energy.

It is possible through proper conditioning. And what I mean is after training on softer things and slowly moving your way up your bones get micro fractures which heal and get stronger and the more you do it the more your nerves get used to the pain or numb. The brick needs to be halfway hanging off of a solid surface. You shouldn't have it suspended by both ends. Then use an angle of decent that puts the most pressure on the point where the brick stops being held up. This will break it from both top and bottom, and make it that much easier. Make sure to aim at the floor not the brick. Your muscles will follow your aim and if you aim for the brick it will stop there. Finally, in order to keep from breaking your hands, wear some protection. I wear hand wraps at the minimum.
