The rollers like that are for old lady hair with old lady haircuts. Think Golden Girls. The problem with your brush out is that you keep brushing the individual curls. You have to brush they hair all together to make those individual curls blend into one big wave. No finger shaking, no separating. I hope you'll try again and try different brushing technique because you're honestly almost there!

Just 5hpught you might like to know about my Mums hairdressing in the 1950s. She had a myriad if time rollers, which were secured by a plastic arrow. She would use kiss curls a lot. It would take her h9urs to do in the evening and then she would sleep in them all.no wonder she was bad tempered 😂😂😂😊 if she wanted waves she had these steel gripper things that seemed to anchor in her scalpbut ended up with a nice wave the following day.

This makes me feel so much better! I've used all different kinds of rollers, but I don't know how to put them in or how to get that brush out! All the tutorials out there make it seem so effortless, but it's so not! Add to that the fact that my hair is chin length....you get even more poodle than you have. At least yours is still long and not an afropoof afterward! And velcro rollers can DIAF.

Oh my. I have long red hair too and it was very thick and naturally curly. I used those Velcro rollers once. They got stuck in my hair so bad that some had to be cut out. Throw those things in the trash. With long hair, (my hair is waist length long), I roll my hair without the rollerers. An easy trick is to take your curling iron, not turned on, and roll up your hair, slide the curling iron out of the hair roll and then pin hair in place. Now if your hair takes more than 24 hours to dry when rolled, let your hair dry naturally about 80%, and use water spray bottle to lightly moisten hair before rolling. I use a hair setting lotion which really helps with the frizzes. I hope this helps. Love watching your videos. Use some pomade for your hair. It will smooth out your curls, control fly away and makes it easy to get the brush through. Use the pomade very sparingly. A little goes a long way.

Ahhhh, the memories of velcro rollers. No thanks. I used to like (when I had hair long enough to curl) those bendy rollers that are made out of the soft foam sort of thing. Yes, the granny was right - a comb is much better than a brush. Mind you, I used to brush/comb and then the curls would totally disappear as though the hair had not seen rollers in the last 30 days or something. Great video.

1. Ditch the velcro curlers. I don't think I need to explain why 😂 Use foam rollers or pin curls instead 2. Use larger rollers. My hair is nowhere near as long as yours and even I need to use larger rollers than what you used 3. Take smaller sections of hair. All that looseness as you got closer to the root is what caused the bottom to be curly but the top to be straight. 4. And I'm sorry about this one because it won't help you achieve a great set immediately, but...practice and trial and error. 5. Some amount of poof and frizziness is normal and accurate (if you're not Dita or an old Hollywood starlet. For those looks, I have better luck with heat sets, but am by no means good enough at them to offer advice). Fwiw, I'm not convinced a setting lotion is necessary. It is if you want your set to last multiple days, but if you just want to style it a day here and there, you can skip it (to anyone with pin straight, hard to curl hair, I don't mean you. You should use the setting lotion).

You are so hilarious and I love your videos. I have similar hair so my suggestion is large, smooth rollers. I had a friend that put tiny bobby curls all over my head and I slept in them. It was such a disaster. My brother also helped me comb out the snarled abomination after we dumped a bottle of conditioner on it. I truly thought my only option was quitting school at 15 years old and joining a religious cult where they shaved your head. Fortunately my Herbal Essence saved the day. You looked fabulous even after the attack of the velcro, I think the finished look was very pretty and vintage-esque.

Thank you for the entertainment! 😂 RIP your ends 👽 but you look gorgeous anyway! ❤ The bright side of having curly hair is that when you do manage to figure out how to do your sets, you'll have it that way for eternity basically until you finally wash your hair! I recommend foam rollers too, and on the larger side would work better since your hair already curls well. If your foam roller pack comes with several sizes, you can use the smaller ones on the bottom. Also, if you can get your hands on Lottabody setting lotion, I'd recommend that, it's amazing!

I cut my own. I used to use hair dressers, but I found that they either cut it too short, or they found it distressing when they cut my hair as I indicated, and they tried to style it in a modern way, and I looked ugly. 😂 It's a riot to make a hair dresser depressed about your haircut. Your hair came out beautifully.

no expert on doing hair whatsoever but can share what i've learned - soft foam rollers or hot rollers, using the right setting product for your hair type (mine is pin straight and doesn't hold a curl so different struggles), trust the brushing process - it will look worse before it is better! there's some technique involved in brushing and smoothing out big chunks of hair, pomade helps with the frizz. And finally there are some lovely vintage hair tutorials out there on youtube :) very helpful. Good luck!

I've got 2.5 and 3 cm, both work nicely. The other thing with those infernal velcro rollers is you have to make sure your ends are tucked all the way at the bottom. its counter-intuitive, but when the ends touch the roller and the hair wraps over it the ends don't suffer... as much. When you've got super thick hair like that (I do too!) you need to use much smaller amounts than you think... never more than the thickness of the roller - so for a 2.5cm roller you use only a portion of hair thats like 2cm - 2.5 of hair and less wide than the roller. Does that make sense? The last thing is that the higher you hold your hair when you roll the more volume you get. It's weird. I had to watch a few beauty tube videos before I got the hang of it, and then i decided it wasn't worth the effort. PS i know it wasnt the style you were going for but i thought your hair looked great at the end. @@Marlenasewing

I think it turned out cute anyway😊. Maybe in the short ends on the front you could put (I think they are called) hair alligator clips to form the wave and keeping it on it's place, after that a lot of hair spray tends to do the trick. 👽 velcro rollers are evil. i have long hair, and i use fabric-coated soft sponge rollers that have wires in them so you can wrap them around the curls. they're usually cheaply made, so you have to be careful to sew the ends up if the wire pokes through or you'll be back in velcro roller-style hell. thin sections, spritz one roller's worth at a time, comb, and wrap your ends in toilet paper to keep them smooth and together while rolling. and use medium rollers for a vintage set--no wonder your hair was too tightly curled...i find those small rollers are best for the lower back of your head to give you volume. you can roller-set clean damp hair with a little setting lotion on it--that's how i do it. you and your hair are gorgeous; try a bonding cream to repair the damage, and whatever you do, please don't try to lose weight. you are perfect! ❤

I guess I deserved the title of a girl who survived a shipwreck of the century after not washing my hair for a week🙈🤭 but honestly, I wish I looked even 10% like Rose on her worst day. She's the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen in my life 😍

Look up how to tie your hair with strips of cloth. We used to call it doing our hair in "rags".

Since your hair is naturally curly they should stay longer. Next time pls use foam rollers and setting lotion! Your hair will look so cute

I am assuming you need to do pin curls or just use curling tongs as your hair in naturally curly.

I tried them and didn't like the process to be honest 🙈 I had to use a lot of product to keep them in place, and my hair was drying forever. But thank you for your comment ❤️ Happy New Year 🥳

Where you’re going wrong…. First you need to use proper setting lotion - the stuff ‘old ladies’ use. Second, find a book that shows the curling diagram - if you don’t curl in the right direction it won’t work. And, third, probably most important, you need to apply heat - women would sit for hours under a hairdryer hood - watch any 40s/50s film with women going to the salon. A short blast from a hairdryer isn’t enough. Your curlers are also all much too big for the style you are trying to create, curls have to be much tighter because the weight of your hair will stretch them out. For the ultimate upper arm workout, you could also try using rag rollers and leaving them in overnight (wrap your head in a shower cap to generate some heat) and don’t use a plastic brush!!!!!! Natural bristles only! Ever! Your hair will thank you!

As a hairstylist of over 40 yrs you have no idea how much & how loud I'm screaming at you NOT to put those tiny rollers into your hair. 😧😨😱 Velcro rollers are the devil! I used them once & never again. PLEASE horde some smooth plastic rollers (larger ones for your hair length, texture, & thickness) & try again. It takes practice, but I know you can do it. I have faith in you. Just remember that in order to get a desired result you must use the best utensils at your disposal. Some women even used to use toilet paper rolls.....once the toilet paper was gone of course. 😂For what you used you did excellent. You just need to get better tools & practice. If you wish to sleep in your rollers, buy you some good foam rollers.....again, large size. Instead of starting at the very end of your hair, move up a few inches, roll the short end onto the roller, THEN proceed to roll to your scalp. Will make your life so much easier. Much respect from East Texas in the States 💖💖💖 OH!!!! And I think your hair turned out adorable! Maybe use some bobby pins to place your bang more to the side. But for what you had to work with you did AWESOME!!!!

Maybe you should just look in the mirror and realize how very beautiful your hair actually is. I do enjoy watching your videos, but your language is quite offensive in my opinion. I realize it is my choice whether or not to continue watching just as it is your choice to speak as you wish, but as an older woman, I feel it detracts from the videos.
