This is a fun project. Thanks for sharing. For free hardscape dried up Heather, Heather root is pretty good, been using it for years without issue, loads of it out in the peaks! Boring rocks though, I tend to go further afield for them, I don't overly love spending money on rocks and wood

Right second comment now after watching the video! Looks really good, just goes to show that you don't need to spend hundreds to get a nice looking tank! Great job!

This was fun! It’s always nice to see you having a good time! I think that the tank turned out great and it was really nice to have a couple extra peeks at mega tank. ❤

This was how I started. I caught some gambusia from a local spring as well as some aquatic plants, bought a 10gal off Facebook for 15$ with a light, black sand and tiny chunks of red lava rock, and a hob filter. For several months, I was all in about 45 $ for food, organic soil, and the tank setup. Then I caught multi-tank syndrome 😂😂😂😂

Yep I started with a 10 gallon and locally sourced hardscape materials… 6 months lasted I have 7 tanks ranging from 5-60 gallons all fully planted.. I don’t know what happened

I love what you do on your channel! Very nice Video! I am in the process of buying a 55 gallon aquarium, a stand, filter, hose, light, and hood for $80! I am hoping no one else will buy it.

Reckon the blue pebbles glow in the dark lol. And maybe the gravel is JBL Monado?

Dont you need a nutrient layer for those type of plants especially the crypts? Minus the fern

Great video topic Graeme. As Jack say's you don't need to spend hundreds and there are some good bargains on YT if you weed out all the stupid listings.

Graeme, the roots from the epiphytes do not need to be placed in the soil, I know you have stated the rhizome doesn't. I'm pretty sure the roots shouldn't be placed in soil/substrate but not 100% on that.

The roots can be placed in the substrate, it’s just important to keep the rhizome above the substrate, I did a little experiment where I took two anubias barteri and buried the roots of one, and wedged the other under a piece of driftwood. The one with its roots buried grew significantly faster and larger than the other one. I know this is a very small sample size, but in my experience anubias will grow faster and larger when the roots are planted
