Dishevelled and defeated after my 2,00km cycle across Japan, on the final day of my journey in Kagoshima, I spent the morning learning the local martial art (Jigen-Ryu). It was a surprisingly fun experience and a fantastic end to the trip, even if I look half dead. Special thanks to Alex at the People of Kagoshima channel for having us! Pity it takes a few years to per-fect this skill . That , and that now after WW2 #Japan is military neutral ~ otherwise I'd ask you Chris " Is there any chance the teacher there would send an elite team of warriors to Ukraine 🇺🇦 to scare 😱 and dismember Russian soldiers back over the border vowing Never to invade Ukraine ever again . 😏🤳🇦🇺🇳🇴

I could be wrong but judging by the training method's this looked like Jigen-Ryu's school of swordsmanship. The school is known for its "monkey scream" to stun the opponent as the swordsman charges forward with full offense...hence the number strikes they train per day on a solid beam 😬😬😬, apparently this school focuses so heavily on offense - theres almost no defensive techniques. Its one of the prestigious schools recognised by the Japanese Budo associations too! Would love to see Chris or Tokyo Lens, or any youtuber to explore more on martial arts Dojos in Japan!

The screaming is believed to connect the spirit with the striking thus was practiced since ancient Japan, and was actually proved to be effective in real combat/war. Well, If it was me my opponent is screaming eeeeee!!! or aaaaaaa!!! while trying to cut me down I would be disturbed by it.

ROFL... well, yeah, after cycling all of that you could argue that the energy for screaming and the muscle power for handling the sword/stick just wasn't there. xD Kiai in martial arts also shouldn't be something you have to make an effort to produce, but rather something you let out... even if it ends up sounding a bit ridiculous - of course it'll be harder in front of a camera and strangers. xD Just something you eventually get used to, but it takes time, and perhaps a bit of trust.
