Hello, I'm Dominique. I used to make videos at The Storyscape. Last month, I had about a week before work started back up for me and so I decided to start making KZbin videos again. Here we go.

I think this is the best "trying an author's routine" video I've seen. The editing, the way you frame thing's!!! I hope more people find you soon💚

"i'm creating more than i'm consuming" is the headspace i'm settling in right now as well. it always feels good to come back to that. i loved this video and i can't wait to see more from you! just watching this inspired me to get back to the story i fell out of routine with.

This is a great video, and wow "the ideas rotting in my head"...what a great visual-this helps me get my butt in gear and make writing time a priority. I too hated to get up early but now that I have a toddler I have to if I want to get anything done for myself. Have you slept enough each night? I heard somewhere that women actually need more sleep than men-between 9-11 hours a night. Only men thrive on 7-8 hrs each night. So try sleeping more-once I started sleeping 9 hrs a night, getting up at 4 or 5am became a piece of cake. Although it does seem like you might be a middle of the night writer...whatever-you do you!! Great video!

Hm, interesting. I'll have to see how I do on nights with more and than 8hrs now. Thanks for watching!

This is great! can't wait to read your work some day. I feel like her morning ritual of watching the sun was almost like a liturgy: a way to participate with the world and the muse and God or whatever it is that inspires people. Thanks for making this video and I wish you well in your work!

I hate waking up early too. I'm having to do that right now too and I hate it, especially Saturday mornings.☹ Well done! I totally get what you mean about the consuming.

This was fun to watch. I didn't know Toni Morrison's routine before this. I wrote my first manuscript because of her words -- because of the quote that you opened this video with. Thanks.

This was so good to watch. I watched with my daughter when I was putting her down for a nap. Love how she soothes with videos like this. I love Toni Morrison she was a good one ❤ can you do Octavia Butler next? I know her routine is hard but is what we do when we work full time! It’s inspiring to me as someone who grew up struggling and as butler didn’t have but my own mind as a friend sometimes. Thank you for this wonderful video

Wow! You are amazing and I love your ambition. I am a huge Tony Morrison fan as well and I wanted to tell you she was in the bed around 9:00 pm so don’t worry about being off a little. (LOL) Also children are up like clockwork around or about 7:00 am and her choices were limited. So while you are on the right path, you’re absolutely right about doing what works for you because sleeping enough hours is definitely a must to conquer her routine😂 I was excited to come across your story and see that she inspires you. I know you will be successful. I wish you the best of luck❤

Absolutely love Toni Morrison and this video - your music choice is impeccable! I can heavily relate to the desire to create more than you consume. I feel like the pandemic numbed a lot of our brains for a bit, but now we're picking up the inspiration again. Looking forward to more videos from you!

I love seeing all your craft books in the background of your video. I had to read Robert McKee's Story for a college writing class, and two decades later, it's still on my shelf, so thoroughly read and annotated that the spine is breaking.

Wonderful! Very glad to have found your channel, going to sub:) I'm a writer too! I'm guessing you're a French speaker? For the mornings and alarms: I read somewhere that alarms "shock" the body awake and they're obviously not a very natural way to wake up which can account for the grumpiness/grogginess. After getting up at that time consistently though, you won't even need an alarm! Loved the video!

Loved this video! So encouraging having that reminder to be non perfectionist about this. On a ludicrously trivial note the baking / cooking you do at the beginning looks incredible. Do you have a recipe for that awesome looking scone (Im from the UK where this is known as a scone - such an ugly word for a heavenly thing! though my Nigerian Auntie would correct me and inform me quite rightly that this a biscuit! - I think US terminology is biscuit too?)
@bewriting

Indeed I do say biscuit. I'm pretty sure I just used the basic recipe from the Allrecipes website, but you really can't go wrong with any recipe you find.

La grasse matinee: literally "a fat morning" or "a greasy morning" meaning a morning of sleeping in (I had to look it up. Thought I'd share for anyone else who doesn't know!)

Ideally (my 2 cents) , up at dawn , but ideally (also) after 8 hours of sleep ! Because by the third day of less than adequate sleep you’ll be dead to the world and it will take a couple days to make it back. Also …no guilt. Just get back on the horse 🐴
