Just know that other artists are all sitting with you, feeling your frustration and defeat in our souls, because we all have been there when learning to render fur. It's tricky and there really is no one good way to do it. Don't be too hard on yourself. Wait until you hit 2 million subscribers, look back at this video, and chuckle because you will have gotten a handle on it by then. :)

When I draw hair (I don’t do much fur) each strand varies in colour just a little so not only do you have to deal with usual shading but light and dark textures within that too so even in the shadow areas there’s the odd strand that catches the light and becomes white. Also depending on how it’s lit, the edge strands often pick up more light too. Playing with white and grey colours on top could help pick theses textures and hi lights a little more perhaps and make it look less fiery? Really great job tho, such a difficult thing to get just right.

I think if you add small section where there's lines that would give the representation of fur, it would help the image a lot. Giving the impression that the whole thing is fur with just minor details. Kind of like when you're doing pencil sketches where you work in sections then add highlights and small loose lines it would help.

It is good and it does look like hair, but a drawing of hair. For a more realistic effect try a base color, then shadows, then lights and then, at the end it needs some individual thin hairs, especially with the lighter color, but in the darker places, you can add thin dark hairs too. The thin hairs is what you needed here, but you can't do it with only cans, you need tools.
