I once built a small blank-firing cannon from a truck hydraulic cylinder and clad it in a glass fibre jacket I’d cast in a mould to get all the exterior detail correct. Added timber and a pair of old cartwheels.

@@brentbarnhart5827 I should clarify - It didn't use the cylinder. It used the internal piston which is a hollow tube with a very smooth and shiny exterior.

I'm an engineer and make factory automations all over the world. I like ingenuity, cleverness, etc. I try to use existing "stuff" all the time to make my equipment just to keep it simple. Sounds like a fun project. @@and7barton

Fishing rod its better tool for it, and less painfull for fishes. And this fishing gun is a copy chinese co2 airgun qb-78 series.

I started crossbow fishing a few years ago. I have found a laser sight is essential. As we learned in school the water refracts light so where you see the fish isn't where it really is. The laser refracts as well so it compensates the aim. The glowing dot also attracts fish.

Which laser sight are you using? I've heard that not every laser is refracting in the same way, some refract differently from visible light, some just dont work with water at all, you cant see them.

@@georgewashington1621 It's just a cheap Chinese red laser from Amazon. it cost like 12 bucks. I believe green may defuse in water but i'm not sure. but anyhow, red works fine for me. I use it mainly in creeks and streams so no great depth.

​@@georgewashington1621 it really should be red to be able to carry on through the water and back to your eyes. I've been using a Crimson Trace that I have converted and customized for the self-built, spring powered speargun with no real complaints... about the laser at least.

Lewis and Clark used an air rifle like this when they traveled across the United states that was invented in the 1790's. It had a 27 shot magazine.

I from what I remember reading in the book Undaunted Courage, the air rifles carried by Lewis and Clark and their expedition company used a sliding block magazine system with 5 shots. I guess we can l do our own research. But it is interesting that high power, big caliber, pre-charged pneumatic airgun technology was available in the late 1700.
