The leapster was me and my brother's very first handheld console. I have fond memories of playing finding Nemo on it. Leapfrog handhelds had a large impact on my interest in gaming. Although I own a 2ds, I still would love to relive those memories of playing the leapster.

Hey, this was great. I have mine up and running. I did notice you can change the settings if you go to Apps -> Explorer then /usr/bin and find the emulator and launch it. This allowed me to change some settings. There is also some folders in there to drop borders, palletes, and saves, although I have not tried that yet. Have you had any luck on getting other emulators on there? I can't make heads or tails of the emulator's distribution to try other emultors. I tired a linux and anbernic build of mgba but neither seemed to take.

Thanks for this quide. I got an Explorer recently (they pop up at thrift stores sometimes too) and was debating if there's anything else I can do with it or if I should just sell it now that I've played the one game I wanted (Neopets for Didj). I can follow instructions but I'm not a "computer person".

Yo can anyone help me, I got it all set up and then as soon as I was going to launch an snes game, it did a reboot and then went straight to the recovery screen that has those yellow exclamation ⚠️ marks flashing on the leapfrog and computer logos that when I try to troubleshoot it by simply turning it off and on or even going to reinstall the whole thing again, it just wont load. The thing is I’ve redone the steps like I had done just before when it was working just fine multiple times and all it says every time is No route to host, It wont let me access into the leapfrog explorer meaning I cant install retroleap. Im on a vm just like you are with Pop OS and I’ve followed everything and still no luck😔

You might have more luck trying out the recovery process running Pop!_OS on bare metal instead of in a VM, just to avoid any issues with USB passthrough.

@@probablyhades Can I do that by just plugging in a hdd through USB (the highest it goes to is 2.0) into my laptop with the Pop os iso already on it and just proceed to run it from my laptop’s boot manager?

@@probablyhades Ok thank you I will try that but before I do, Is it possible to make a portable version where I can just run Pop os off a usb 30gb flash drive or do I need to make a partition for it onto my main drive? Right now I would have to buy a hdd if I did it running off its own hard drive but I just realized I have a usb drive on hand I can use and was wondering if it could just be installed like that onto usb without messing with my main internal hdd

I used PopOS to flash a leapsterGS...now I'm trying to flash the OC firmware and it wont connect...tried the windows method and Ubuntu...really the GBA games run GREAT already...the GS is perfect for GBA

The Leapster GS can somehow run PS1 games (2D PS1 games even at full speed)
