I finally did it! I Chose to face my fears...by building a commemorative Diorama! And in 4K! I delve into what gave me Nightmares as a child, what inspired my love of film special effects and design as well as a bit about how I was able to face my childhood fears successfully.
I can not deny Science Fiction films have impacted my sensibilities and tastes my whole life so its really a satisfying to be able to make a piece that is an ode to where my influences are rooted.
I show you in this Diorama Tutorial How To: Cut and shape XPS/EPS Foam, Ideal Glue up and Gluing techniques, Painting finishing and weathering techniques, stencils, lighting and more!
I also unbox the HotToys Buzz Lightear Action Figure and pose him in the diorama, I also made a special short for the intro to this video tutorial inspired by the juxtaposition of horrifying nightmare sensibilities and Childhood Innocence.

This is incredible work! I’m doing a space station/sci-fi diorama at the moment, you’ve definitely given me some inspiration to try out some new things with mine. I love all the angles and shapes you built into the walls, and the idea of a “face” on the door was great. I, too, had some nightmares about the Aliens as a kid. But my main antagonist was Freddy Krueger, which was particularly awful because I knew enough about the character to know that he only gets you in your sleep. So being a little kid and dreaming about the ugly guy who gets you while you’re sleeping? Absolutely harrowing. Then I watched the movies as a teenager/adult and they’re ridiculous, I love them haha. Excellent diorama man. You never cease to inspire!

Thank you, and wow yeah the elephant man, that’s a rough situation for the guy, and when you’re young and don’t understand medically what’s going on it’s hard to wrap your brain around things like that

I've been terrified of nuclear war since reading Revelations as a very young boy, probably 7 or 8 years old. When T2 came out and had the dream sequence, I fully realized the nightmares I had as a younger boy were in fact Nuclear war. Nuclear war... Final answer.

Yeah that’s pretty terrifying, I’ve been reading “The Pentagons Brain” by Annie Jacobsen and it goes into the history of military science and how in 1960 NORAD almost launched like 100 nukes because the radar system mistakenly thought “THE MOON” was 100 Russian nukes coming at us. Thankfully because the system does NOT run in AI, a human went outside and SAW the full moon, decided not to launch a retaliation strike and then they discovered their radar system was more sensitive than they realized, it has since been fixed. Prettt wild, also the internet was invented cause someone at DARPA lied to a pentagon official to get $1,000,000 more funding on their project by promising an interconnected computer system so the military could operate more efficiently, then when the money was granted they had to actually figure out how to do it, ICPIP was born and now you’re watching me make dioramas and talk about childhood fears…thanks DARPA! 😆

My two recurring nightmares as a child was 1. A cannibal witch stalking me, as I run from her. 2. Running/jumping over endless wholes in the ground, while they get bigger and bigger, until I die of exhaustion or just full into a whole, too big to jump over. But what I was scared of awake was very normal things: random men talking to me on the street, heights, knives, old dead women appearing in the shower... you know normal things...🤷‍♀️

There is only one movie I saw a child that scared me I have not returned to. I've avoided horror/scary movies since I was 10. Goonies is the first that comes to mind. It bothered me because gave me feelings of being lost and a sense of claustrophobia. I have not seen it since I was 5. Aleins was another movie that really scared me. I managed to watch that a few years ago, but I've never seen the first Alien film. Another was the first Gremlins. I watched that, and it was not as bad as I remembered.

If being a teenager still counts then it's literal babies. Tip of the day: If the young adult/ child in your life is adamant about not wanting to hold their shrieking newborn nephew for a picture DO NOT FORCE THEM. 21 years later and I still have nightmares and auto terror reactions to anything baby.

Fantastic! Great intro, scared the bejeebus out of me. The the worn-off paint look was super-effective. I checked Lowes Online and Amazon and couldn't find a listing for that flexible 1/8th inch Expanded Sheet Styrene you used. It looks perfect for an upcoming project. It kind of looks like EVA foam. Could you tell me where you get yours? Thanks.
