You could have had the same effect by attaching a window unit and keeping the original gear inside and adjusting the intake to the side and making a frame around it and placing the dehumidifier inside of the frame well placing the condensation pool outside of the frame.

a dehumidifier is a fridge with the door open. vapor would condense into water in a open fringe that is turned on. if you want to turn it into a normal fridge you just need separate one side of that interior and insulate it form the outside.

pretty cool idea would be better to route the exhaust from the fridge to the intake of the cooler creating a closed cooling loop, temperatures would drop much quicker and would automatically dehumidify the air :)
