😍 The dress makes me think of 1940s wedding dresses. Thrifting material or repurposing things you have at home is a great way to learn. When I started sewing a lot of clothes for myself we did not have a lot of money and buying fabric from the fabric store was not something I could do often. I remember searching through my grandmothers old curtains when I was 14 years old. I found a pair of green floral curtains that I used to make a pair of pants. I loved to be able make something that no one else in school had. Thrifting and repurposing materials is not only inexpensive and Eco friendly, it can also be a big part of the creative process. Working with what you have often forces you to make choises with how to construct or modify your pattern that you otherwise would not have done. It forces you to think creatively and helps you grow. My grandmother was also a seamstress and she taught me so much and has been a big inspiration. Many years after making my curtain-pants I chose to become a crafts teacher and I have never stopped using curtains, bed sheets, tablecloths and old clothes both at work with my students and at home creating things for myself. My grandfathers name was Gunnar. 🙂 He was a skilled wood turner. He taught me a lot too. Never wood turning, but problem solving and fixing and mending stuff.

She wanted her sister in her wedding party and we didn't have much cash to pull it off. i bought a used dress from a friend and vamped it up adding lace and a belt, just small details. It came out perfect and I'm so proud of how she looked in it. My daughter passed away since then and I have photos of her in the dress, priceless memories. She rarely dressed up so it's extra special.

You are an inspiration Tom all who dare to dream! Your creativity, passion and skills are what we can all embrace in our own desires and dreams. When I watched you sewing and taping your lines for patterns, I immediately thought of this: “Dance (sing, sew, etc.), like no one is watching! “. …And that is exactly what you are doing! 🌟💕 I’m from a very small Iowan town, on the Mississippi. I started sewing my own clothes when I was 14 because though I am a woman, I didn’t have any curves or “bumps”. Nothing fit me. I am the oldest of eight children, so we are a large family. My German grandmother taught me to sew on her treadle machine when I was eight. We used to get potatoes by the hundred pound sack, made of burlap. I thought I would use the burlap bag and make a nice shift (1964). My father dared me when I decided to make the dress. He said he would give me $2.00 if I wore the dress and walked downtown in it and back. I took the only dare my father ever made me - and failed miserably! The dress fit fine and I had washed the “fabric” first, of course, but my father knew more about “that” particular “fabric” than I did. By the time I got home, my skin was red with rashes and I was sore all over!! My father didn’t make fun of me, he just put his arms around me and wiped my tears away. But I was never, ever sorry for believing I might succeed in what I felt strongly about! …..and I still got the $2.00!! 🤭 Don’t ever stop soaring, I see that you already have made your name! Congratulations, and as you have already guessed, I will be 72, well on July 31 st. I’ll give you some more next time! Take care☺ and keep true to your dreams !

Hello Gunner, I've enjoyed many of your videos. You are such an uplifting guy. I greatly admire your creativity. Your use of beautiful stones is fantastic. Sorry to hear about the recent loss of your loving grandmother. Peace be with you and your family during this difficult time. Sending a hug from Iowa. Mary

I absolutely adore You!!!! You’re so talented and sweet!!! My husband is just wowed by your “ART”!!! I was born in 1963… My mother made all my clothes except for tights and socks… she even made slips for my dresses… We made a quilt together when I was a teenager… I can sew a few things… I made doll clothes for my red headed Midge and Barbies… I love those memories that watching you brings back… I had those curtains… 30 years ago… You just keep WOWING Us Please…

I love this vintage inspired wedding dress. Only a truly talented designer could make something so beautiful from curtain panels! I'm a huge fan. Keep designing and keep inspiring others.

You are a beautiful person. The red Velvet and lace prom dress you made for your niece complimented her so well. She and the dress are gorgeous!

I becam familiar with you on the short videos, great to see you make longer ones. My first wedding dress was actually made from curtain material because we could not find the tulle that I wanted in regular dressmaking fabric so we went to the kitchen fabrics and found just what I needed to make the dress. Your creations are just breathtaking. You are so talented.

I grew up a coal miner’s daughter’s daughter in the Appalachian mountains in Pa and my paternal grandmother was a seamstress. She passed away before I was 21 and started ballroom dancing. She used to make some of my dance recital costumes and they were beautiful when I was younger and I really missed her and her resourcefulness when up against those expensive ballroom costumes. When you don’t have much you have family and we were close. Lots of talent but nothing in my pockets. I wish I would’ve had time to learn from her. Your story touched me. The result was gorgeous btw! ❤️❤️❤️🪡🧵

What a gorgeous dress!! You kept saying that you hoped it would be "cute," and it is, but it has a lovely easy sophistication with the drape and those beautiful lace patterns. Thank you for showing your creations in progress as well as the finished products. Stunning!
