4:50 - As a Monster Train enjoyer myself, I can confirm that the game IS rather complex. While the general flow of gameplay is not too terrible, there's too many cards and mechanics for new viewers to fully grasp (with some of them being very hard to spot or straight-up hidden), and the game is incredibly busy from a visual stand-point.

@@greenownes there is a difference between depth and complexity. Slay the spire is less complex than monster train but both games have a tremendous amount of depth.

@@greenownes sts has 4 champs to pick up with roughly 2 play styles for each and each run with a particular champ is more or less the same. MT has 6 clans, 2 champs each, and each champ has 3 upgrade paths and you pick two clans per run giving vastly different synergies almost every run. as well as having unit summons that are just completely absent from sts. that's waaay more complex and more difficult to digest as a new viewer. i really wish it wasn't because imo MT is a much more fun game and has much more content to offer, but the reality is that game just doesn't translate to watchable content for big creators

@@greenownes That's completely understandable, especially with the fact that in Slay the Spire (STS), each of the characters have their own unique strats that can be accomplished in a variety of different ways. And that's not even including the fact that the WATCHER exists. But it's more so about the visual complexity rather than the thought behind the gameplay itself: In STS, you have 1 dude against a few other dudes. You play cards that do some things, end the turn, the enemies do some things to you, and then it back to your turn. Maybe somethings happen in-between those steps, but maybe not. In monster train on the other hand you have multiple dudes, or very few, and a BOAT load of enemies with some that aren't even present at the start of the fight. You play some dudes, play cards that do things, end your turn, the enemies does some things, your dudes does some things, some random stuff happens, then some enemies start ascending and new ones come in, a random pixie spawns, maybe there's a big dude doing some EVEN MORE things while moving around, and THEN it's back to your turn. Oh, and did I happen to mention this is across 4 different floors that the player has to manually scroll through? In short, while the general flow, and logic behind both games are very similar, Monster Train has much more going on in a fight than Slay the Spire, which may cause new viewers, who may be COMPLETELY NEW to the entire concept of these games, to shy away due to visual overload.

Even after you factor out some of the niche strats that just don't pan out long term in later covenant ranks (like Wrathful Prince + Spikes), there's still SO many strats to try out! But oh well. Good ol' sts and peglin poglin are still fun in their own rights

I think my main issue is properly using my health as a resource, I dont like being low health and probably heal when I should be getting stronger. as a hardcore monster train elitist that wants nothing more than to see frost play it, he's absolutely right. i'd be surprised if monster train content got 1/3rd of the views of StS content. the people want 4 heroes with 2 play styles each not 12 heroes with 3 to 4 play styles each with combat happening on 3 lanes simultaneously. plus the art style isn't great at first impressions which is all that matters for content creation
