Do what works for you for the time. I had my 2002 Elantra GT for 16 years. And she could have kept going. But decided to upgrade to a 2018 Elantra Sport. I love the new car but There are days I wish I could go back to my old faithful.

I have a 28 year old truck that still hauls hay and my horses. Old vehicles survive way better than newer vehicles if you take care of them properly.
