I actually find it nice that it has a full case rather than a "floating switch design". The casing doesn't seem half bad either as a foundation. Epoxying a few thin sheets of steel should make it MUCH nicer than stock, like stiffer and heavier. Feel of quality is more important than actual quality, right? But i guess sil-pour works too.
@jm0363 жыл бұрын
The casing is crap, it's just plastic. I think the Redragon K552 I have sometimes goes for as little as $30 and that has a fairly thick metal plate, it also has the exact same PCB and keycaps as this board.

I have to say, that silicon o-ring "gasket mount" mod is absolutely clutch for tray mounted keyboards. HUGE difference. Another really good mod, which you could have done, is to put keycap O-rings on when you use high profile keycaps. It doesn't change the feel of bottoming out if you use a single o-ring, but it makes the bottom out sound quieter because there is less reverberation in the plastic.

3:39 I know that feeling, Outemu hot sockets are the worst sockets in the keyboard kingdom! They have a death grip on switches, making it hard to remove them without destroying part of the switch, and they're almost proprietary! They only work with Outemu, Gazzew, Akko, and Lcet switches. (Maybe more than that) (You need to cut the legs off some of the switches that fall under that umbrella to make them fit in the sockets) I know that A good amount of keyfeels fall under that umbrella, and you can trim the pins and take the legs off on some other switches to make them work, but you might not want to put up with that in the first place.

Funny enough, I just modded an E-yooso keyboard this morning as my first mod (a typewriter-style board was what I started with) and I actually really love the Outremu Blues it came with, they took what I loved about the MX Blues and beefed it up. Even better though were the stabs. Instead of having a bar to keep the keycaps level, it has a false switch on either side of the actual switch. It has zero wobble or rattle

Anyone remember when IBM keyboards ( like 5150 original pc)?used Cherry keyswitches and cost about $350? I hope the designers who created the TRS 80 Model II keyboard with the foam and tinfoil got a raise for the elegant junk it was. How did it ever work? They survived more that I expected they could. Spill coffee in it, dry it out, clean the pcb traces with alcohol and it just worked.
@danieldimitri61333 жыл бұрын
I remember the buckling springs in the model f and model m keyboards. The f was more compact and i think the spring lever mech acted on an electrocapacitive element on the pcb. The model m came later and set the standard for keyboard layout but the buckling spring actuated a normal membrane. I never typed on a model f but supposedly it was higher quality than the model m but the early model m seems to be very well built regardless. Maybe they got lighter and more plastic over the years but the one i have from 1989 with a ps/2 cable is heavy and doesn't seem to lack steel parts inside.

If you do review these switches, there are a lot but the ones I am talking about are the Akko CS Rose Reds, the Akko CS Matcha Greens, and the Akko CS Ocean Blues. They all are great and feel and sound amazing from what I have heard, but the only ones that I have tested personally are the rose reds.
