Before the wave of upcoming 2019 Flagship Smartphones, I used the Sony Xperia Arc S instead of the Samsung Galaxy S10, OnePlus 7, Sony Xperia XZ4 etc.

@@freakipz5002 back in the day manufacturers could somehow find the money to sell a flagship for half the price (compared to today), and could also find enough capital to include plenty of accessories like headphones or a case; compared to today you pay more than twice as much (in some cases) and you just get a charging brick and a cord. Accessories cost them little to manufacture, yet they sell them separately for $20-$30 a piece. I mean how does a third party charging cord cost like $6 vs an apple cord that'll cost me $25? Does Apple use solid gold lines? It's the first party branding you're paying for.

Well I do think there is enough phones for 150€ that are better in so many ways than an iphone 4S, back in the day when we used normal cellphones I used a Nokia 3310 in school and (he is not my best friend anymore) shittalked me for having such a mobile. When actually the only difference was if it could play music and taking pictures. I told him if I want to take a picture, I use a camera. Maybe not true today, but back then a usual phone that most people could afford... if it had a camera... I think it had like 0.8MP sensors. Lol. What a waste, the pictures were absolute dogshit.

This was one of the best smartphones I've owned. Towards the end stages of my ownership, I've used a custom ROM (Xperia S rip) from xda. This had quick toggles, brightness slider and all bloatware removed. It gave the phone a fresh breath as the physical design looked futuristic to begin with. (Disabling the google play services made the battery last 2 days) The real challenge was a mere 128MB usable internal storage, while apps continued to grow in size. (Whatsapp alone was 100mb+ !!) I had to upgrade because of this sole reason.

Different phone but similar problem. My old phone had very little internal storage, an many apps such as WhatsApp refuse to be stored on an SD-Card. I needed an upgrade and went with a cheapo modern phone under 100 bucks.

I feel like mobile phones had heaps more character before the Smartphones hit - No phone was the same. Each brand had their own personality when it came to a mobile phone and if you gave your phone to a friend, they would struggle to unlock it. These days most people have their phone on silent but back then it was all about polyphonic ringtones and how it was a massive upgrade from the mono tones and people wanted to buy a phone just due to having polyphonic tones - My first colour phone was a Sony Ericsson and I remember i paid $179 for it, it didn't have a camera but i absolutely loved it.

@@taz874 Yeah I hear ya. It's also $1000US with a screen cutout and no headphone jack and a small battery. I too would like a device with a competitive camera and good specs from a reputable company, but I also value function and we're just not getting it with these new phones.

“And 8 years in the world of smartphones genuinely feels like a generation” *Laughs in Apple* Edit* basically what he said is that the phone isn’t comfortable to use today. However, if you grab an iPhone 4s you could still comfortably use it today. I mean hell, I have an iPhone 6s from 5 years ago and it still feels just as snappy as a new iPhone and is still getting software updates. Yes phones have improved, but I think that if you try to use an old iPhone now vs an old android phone, you would have more success with an old iPhone being more similar to today’s phones.

Yeah but with cars I like this, they have a lot of surface, so designers have more space to make differences. I mean you are still able to say which brand made a model pretty easy. Phones are all just the same. If we could remove the brand names probably nobody could make a difference. I was always interested in design so maybe this is why I really don't like this way.

I've been using Galaxy S3 for the last 6 years. Looking for a replacement, I focused on finding something with a comparable screen size/form factor and those two you've mentioned (+ iPhone 7/8) were the closest. In the end I settled for Pixel 2 (same form factor, smaller screen). I have pretty big hands, but still need to adjust this phone in my palm to reach the top corners of the screen. I actually thought about trading it in for an iPhone just for the sake f being able to navigate the phone really fast one-handed. I'd say XZ3 Compact is the only true compact phone on the market right now worth spending money on.

Definitely one of the most attractive of my previous phones and the "feel in the hand" was very high. The camera was also pretty decent, I seem to remember. But it really did lack performance and updates to the OS pushed by Sony really made it worse. But I stuck with Sony a little longer and went down their later Xperia phones.

I always said Sony would kill the mobile division (said it allready from day one in 2011 when they news came out and no one really believed me that time), not because of bad phone but because they never been good at designing the phones. I do like the monolith design though, because in sense its kinda scandinavian design language. Lines that are easy but mostly it felt to be for buisnessmen and no play. But I think Sony would and should go more nostalgia. Why dont do a Arc design phone with the modern specs. I mean common even with those bezels it looks good, am I right or what?

@@waltwalters7600 so true. they just keep adding cameras and keep removing some inportant stuff like headphone jacks, external SD or sim 2 slots. not to mention most phones these days have non-removable batteries. 🤔

I used it for few more years with custom roms for jelly bean,& kitkat.. only drawback of it was it was pretty unusable without micro sd card.. apart from it..i loved every bit of it.
