There is ethno-funk music out there , even from the first years of funk all around the globe people were mixing it with ethnic elements. I even played ,back in my college years, bass in a band with both elements in some songs. Fela Kuti is an example from African and funk, Turkish 70's funk , some Greek bands like Mode Plagal and human touch etc there are a lot of examples even of contemporary bands
