I still have no clue why anyone would have or needs 30 - 40 chrome tabs open at any one time? You can only look at one at a time. Surely a bookmark/folder system is better, accessing as needed?

Love my Mac mini m4. I’m a web designer and graphic designer with some light video editing and this machine has been a complete powerhouse with no slow down. I do keep a handful of apps open but I definitely don’t have a ton of tabs running as I have them as bookmarks to access in the favorites bar if I need to.

I bought the base model, and haven't touched my Windows gaming rig since I set it up. I don't do heavy gaming anymore, or any editing, so for regular home use and the occasional Diablo or The Sims play session, it's absolutely perfect for me. I did have to go into settings and swap the Cmd and Ctrl keys (I swapped my custom keys on my keyboard as well), because I just could not retrain myself for using different copy/paste keys. That drove me nuts until I figured out how to change it.
@hsjsisjsj4 күн бұрын

The baseline moved from 8GB to 16GB and so did the goalposts. I can already feel the narrative that “16GB isn’t enough in [current year]” brewing up. It’s not here yet…but soon.

I’d really love to understand why you prefer to edit on your M4 iPad Pro vs the M4 Mac Mini? Both running the M4 chip and I assume (at 16GB’s of RAM) that the Mac Mini would be just as (if not more so) powerful. I understand if you prefer using the Apple Pencil in your editing workflow or something like that, but are there any actual performance advantages in using the iPad Pro for editing vs the additional I/O you loose from editing on the Mac Mini? I’m curious if maybe I’m missing or overlooking something.

I have the baseline M4 Mini with a 512GB of storage. I find it perfect for all of my home and business uses. It very occasionally gets gummed up if I have multiple tabs with web-based applications open on chrome and Safari at once. If I keep to one or the other, I’m usually fine. I too have Clean My Mac and it will occasionally warn me to close a few tabs if I start getting a little crazy. Otherwise, I’m really happy with it. 🐬

I used a base M1 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM for an IT support job once... It was able to handle everything I threw at it. All the apps were web-based and I used Chrome to use them. I had about 8 tabs open with different apps with two windows open between them. The only 'app' I had on the computer was Spotify. I was blown away how this relatively cheap computer can do all that it did without breaking a sweat. Now, I wouldn't do anything too heavy on it for creative work. I'm sure all apps would work on it just fine. You just can't do intensive jobs on it for fear of crashing. Like exporting 2000 images. But I think 50 to 100 would be perfectly fine. I think Photoshop would work perfectly fine if not a little slow. And that was M1. With 8GB....

Hello, thank you for your honest thoughts on your Mac Mini, I used to use both Intel mac and PC (as much as I love building and customizing PC's , the mini is so easy to plug and play) . After using my Intel MM for many years with maxed ram, I opted to upgrade the base model to 24Gb and 512Gb storage , I use two external drives so I have not come close to running out of space. I have even taken my machine back to my parents home to continue doing remote tasks (just bundled machine, drives and cable in to the lid of the box it came in, a portable IPS monitor, iPad pro, keyboard and mouse I was able to set up on the kitchen table and continue working 😂). It is a great little machine well worth the money spent.

I went with 32GB and while I don't regret it, Apple's memory compression is just crazy. Its so aggressive there will be times I will get the beach ball spinning because its decompression the memory, with zero swap used. I am able to run 70B AI models but it's so impractical given the amount of swap and memory compression happens while being so slow.

As much as I would like to have something like this, the fact that they STILL refuse to include an SD Card slot in the bloody thing is really keeping me from considering this and just going for the 2014 model instead. It is SO dang annoying that they continue to do these BS limitations with such things by limiting it to the more expensive models like the Mac Studio for no reason when they could've had that available for ALL their Macs instead. It's just less convenient for photographers despite how they tried to convince them that this would work well for them.
