I play madden on the portal daily. As long as you have good WiFi it will run amazing. I always prioritize my WiFi to have the best go to the portal. I never have any issues and madden is extremely fun on the portal.

I love mine I use it in my bed. I understand it’s just an accessory and that’s how I use it. I think people just wanted a Vita 2 and when they didn’t get that they automatically hated the Portal without even trying it out. It’s a great device to use in your home.

Do me a favor, force the ps5 to 1080p and 120hz off in the settings and disconnect the HDMI cable then move away from home and connect the portal to your mobile hotspot, Then check if the lagging and stutter is gone So that I waste my money on this device too 😆

Since my PS5 is hooked up to a dedicated simrig and I didn’t want to keep moving it around the house, but also did not want to just buy another ps5. (I rather wait for the Pro version to come out someday). This was exactly what I needed and absolutely love the thing. Battery life and lack of Bluetooth is kinda meh. Other than that it’s a pretty good device.

I have one and so far I'm satisfied with mine. I mostly played Spider Man 2 and I def has some wifi drop outs but overall but it works really well. To the point that at some point you almost forget you're not actually playing on the actual playstation 5. It's cool when you're away from home.

My tv turns on every time I turn on my ps5 but I’ve noticed as long as I leave it on rest mode and use my portal to wake it up it doesn’t turn my tv on or change the tv’s input to the ps5.

My tv used to do this and there was actually a specific setting on the tv to turn off that was under the HDMI menu so might be worth checking that if you haven’t already!

Go to setting think it’s under video settings turn off the setting that automatically turns on your tv then when you boot up the PS5 the tv won’t turn on.

I love ps portal the screen even though I love oled bit the lcd is amazing quality. The size is perfect, and the fact that itsgot habtic feedback even better really does feel like I'm playing my ps5, and from what I can see, it's selling like hell ❤

Is there a reason that you mention how close you were sitting to the console when you were having trouble streaming at home? WiFi devices don't communicate directly with one another. What matters is how close you're sitting *to the WiFi access point*. Does the PlayStation Portal offer an alternative to normal WiFi networking for local communication between the console and the Portal?

Ofc it will. Just the same as streaming movies. You're still using your wi-fi and you're data. If you've unlimited wi-fi youre ok.

Yes because the PS5 sends the data to a nearby PSN server then it comes back to you on the Portal so yes it will eat up your internet data. I have unlimited internet I pay a little more for that and my usage this past month was 1.5gb just on the Portal.

I havent tested it away from home yet but remote playing the ps5 with Steamdeck is awsome. Since I already have a steamdeck, it doesnt make sense to get a portal. The remote play with steamdeck can be setup to work when you're away from home network, I hope to be testing that within the next couple of days.

I got it because at work I have a lot of downtime where nothing happens sometimes 3+ hours of just sitting around so this is awesome. I don’t play on PC so I don’t have a game collection already that’s what’s turned me off steam deck. With the Portal I already have my collection of 200+ games ready to go.

WiFi access point -> hard wire the PS4/PS5 makes remote play much smoother. WiFi radio on them aren't great, so using a more modern wifi6/7 access point helps.

My problem with this device is that almost internet in my country (Vietnam) has the 3 NAT type. Therefore, not mention about the lag and the latency, the possibility to connect it to the PS5 is of paramount importance 😂

I've literally played 95% of ff16 on the portal. And have enjoyed it. Played it at my in laws Xmas day while my ps5 was home on and it worked great. Totally awesome thing to have while laying in bed. So when you're girl wants to cuddle you can do your thing while she watches her reality TV or reads lol

I bet that all people would love to play the Portal away from home so unfortunately from my experience this device gets the job pretty well at home with the same router both PS5 and the Portal connected with it but when I go outside trying hotspot with my phone 5G up to 500 Mbps it’s useless, I must spend more money for a travel router to barely keep it running smoothly.

The problem is that we're still a ways away from 100+ megabit internet being standard across the board almost anywhere you go. A lot of major hotel chains still only peak on average in the 30-60mbps range. Yes, your average home network is likely well over 300mbps, but we're still in the infancy of the highspeed wi-fi age, making a device like this rendered moot outside your home.

If this gets a OLED version and can stream in 1440p it'll be perfect. I still love mine to death . I drive a semi and it's perfect for the tight space and nice at home of the kiddos are watching TV or the wife is binging a show for herself . Ark survival , FFXIV online , forspoken, and horizon have been my go to games . Occasionally overwatch with characters like Moira , sigma , Lucio ,and brig who don't require pin point accuracy to be effective. Helps with the dips in connection when they rarely happen .

To stream in 4k everyone’s internet connections would have to be a lot faster and you cut out a lot of people from using the device. An OLED screen would use more power and cut down on battery life quickly. Believe it or not OLEDs use way more power then an LCD that’s how Sony was able to get more battery life out of the Vita 2000 when they switched to an LCD. Look at the Switch OLED the battery life is worse then the launch model.

As a person who travels alot for my job this portal is great. I've been remote playing since the PS3 days. I don't like playing PlayStation games on a small screen so even though I got the backbone I never use it. Traveling and bringing my PS5 controller with my tablet even though it works fine it's just clunky when I can just bring one device that does everything with a big screen.

Just turn off the control for HDMI then your tv won’t boot up with the console so no video signals are being sent to the tv. Your welcome no need to unplug the HDMI

I feel like everything you listed is is picky. Like to me the portal charges really fast I’ve seen no problem with it. Also it’s funny how you say you understand why they didn’t include normal joysticks but then right after say they should of added them. Personally the joystick feel the same to me. But yeah so far the portal has been amazing and honestly I like that it’s not a standalone handheld because then the graphics wouldn’t be as good and then I’d have to get all new games and make a whole separate account to even play. So far the portal has made the PlayStation fun to play again. And I spent 350 on the portal. Was even telling my dad that I’m glad I paid extra because it would of sucked waiting a super long time and missing out on the fun experiences I’ve been having with it.

PlayStation never marketed this product as anything else other than a remote player for your ps5, so it kill’s me how people want to shit on it because they obviously didn’t read what it was lol, for all the psp junkies who thought they were getting a new psp, sorry but if you kept up with what this was from the time of announcement you would have have known it was only designed to play your ps5 on the go, for someone like me who already used remote play with my phone, the portal solves all the problems I had with the remote play mainly using a non PlayStation controller.

Stick drift all day long. I have drift on my switch have to clean with contact cleaner every month. I now have it on my ps 5 controller it's a sealed unit so can't fix. This will have drift and Sony won't fix it. I'll wait to pick one up next year when they are cheap

5GHz a good router and possibly a wifi extender should fix a lot of people’s problems. It’s not about internet speed more about wifi coverage. My internet literally sucks it’s 25mb down 2mb up and my Portal works flawlessly.
