Do you prefer treble over inline hooks on your mirrodines and why?
@southernsalt Жыл бұрын
I leave them how they come out of the package so I don’t alter the sink rate.
@rosswatkins2277 Жыл бұрын
I love throwing hard plastics. The trout will just hammer the lure.

Swap out those ridiculous treble hooks for good inline single hooks!!!
@southernsalt Жыл бұрын
And why should I do that?
@philborchelt5396 Жыл бұрын
@@southernsalt I have tried to attach several articles that explain why you SHOULD replace treble hooks but You Tube doesn't allow us to attach links. Just Google "should I replace treble hooks". There are several videos from Salt Strong and others that will explain it to you. I switched about 10 years ago. I seriously don't know anyone who still uses treble hooks.
@southernsalt Жыл бұрын
Changing the hooks means that you change the weight of the lure. The lures buoyancy is based on the hooks it comes with. If the hooks are just the slightest bit to light the lure will quickly float to the surface likewise, if the hooks are the slightest bit to heavy the lure will quickly sink to the bottom. I’m sure this works for some but for me I’d prefer it to perform as intended.
@philborchelt5396 Жыл бұрын
@@southernsalt They make inline hooks in many sizes and wire weights. You can match the weight of a treble so close as to be undistinguishable. It WILL NOT affect/alter the lure's perform in the slightest. But, you do you.
@southernsalt Жыл бұрын
This was a discussion that Chris Bush of the @speckled Truth and I had years ago. I used to put inline hooks on my lures, Chris reached out to me to inform me that the sink rate would significantly change. I, like you, thought there’s no way it would affect it to a point where it would matter. Well I was wrong, I bought a scale weighed several different hooks and got it as close as I could ( it was as close as it gets without being exact) I then grew it in my pool and documented the results. The mirrodine sunk like a rock! I then went a tad lighter, the mirrodine then floated to the surface, I couldn’t keep it down. Chris Bush was 100 percent right ever since then I didn’t mess with the hooks.
