As someone experiencing some serious self-doubt, as a single mom and as an aspiring homesteader, this video and your channel is probably saving my life. I'm autistic, I have ADHD, OCD and inflammatory disease, so even though I'm smart, resourceful and think big, I'm completely unemployable. I don't qualify for disability so I'm living hand-to-mouth and struggling through life. I want to succeed as an artist and I want to grow beautiful plants and food for my family, but it's all so overwhelming considering that even doing the dishes seems like a monumental task. Part of what saps my energy is not seeing an end to my struggle. But watching this video where you're surrounded by green things with a big ol' smile on your face saying it's ok to start small, it's ok if you have limited resources, it's ok to screw it up and get it wrong, it puts the wind back in my sails. I really needed to hear all this today. I know I'm meant to create, nurture and thrive and the only thing standing in my way is my attitude. Thank you for the gentle push off the ledge (for lack of a better term lol). I'm looking forward to a brighter, more self-sufficient future!

I'm planning on planting and rotating Tiny Tim, snap peas and cucumber in a few pots in my son's room with a rigged up LED shop light that I can lower and raise with the plants' height. Just need to source some cages/trellises for them! I'm also planning to convert my little China cabinet into a microgreen, shoot, lettuce and seed starter station, and I have hopes of filling a few large pots in my back yard and getting some potatoes, carrots and other cool-climate produce into them if I can scrounge up enough money for some soil this year, and a friend is going to help me convert some pallets into raised beds with hopes of filling them up over the summer (has to be raised beds, too many invasive plants in my yard and our soil is very rocky here!). Maybe someday I'll have enough materials to build a small greenhouse! I've been painting used produce containers black and using them for my microgreens, and I'm going to look further into using egg shells as seed starters. I may nab some sand from the beach the next time I visit and sterilize it in my oven to use in my sand-happy plants, and I'm hoping to start a worm garden soon! Maybe I can find some free/cheap totes on marketplace 😊 I've been learning and failing over the last few years but hopefully I've learned enough to finally get a real process going. Freshly cut wood chips on new potting soil is not a good combination. Over time however, wood chips on a dying garden in Fall, for example, or in walkways, yield nutrients. But not right away

Hey! If it’s been sitting since March and was rained on it’s likely safe. No videos yet, but I can make one! Leaf mulch is likely safest. Also, an idea, check with your local gardening groups for mulch ideas as best mulch fir your area will very from climate to climate

It's funny, well maybe funny is the wrong word, but my dream is to have a small homestead for rescue animals and a large garden. Not just vegetables, but flowers too. I always felt it was unattainable because my husband didn't have the same dream. However with prayer & God knowing my heart I noticed a shift in my husband's attitude. We now have a larger garden bed besides the flower bed I was using. It's not huge by any stretch of the means, but with grow bags it works. Guess what? Now my husband is entertaining the idea of rescuing chickens. Ones that never stepped on grass before or are unwanted because they are old or don't produce enough eggs. God is at work here 😁
