Just to clarify: my PB is 1:15:43 and my sum of best is around 1:10 , so I'm fairly confident it's impossible to beat this in under an hour. But nonetheless, thank you so much Ross! When I was first watching your building streams in 2020, I would never have imagined this. The speedrun and your channel have come so far and I'm just so happy all the hard work and truly insane number of hours that made this happen have culminated into this. So awesome!

Dev - "Yeah, I spent a lot of my time creating the crystal rivers zone. I focused on a lot of the details knowing that the players were going to be spending a lot of time there earning required items." Speed runners - "So if you stand on this pixel, you can jump off an invisible platform completely bypassing the crystal rivers and of course we don't need any of the items in that zone anyway."

Ah, yes. I remember this world. I still have the Note on my phone and the Excel spreadsheet from when the Grumps played it. By my officially-unofficial count: Arin died 2108 times over 38 episodes, averaging 55.47 deaths an episode (the most was 100 in ep. 26), and his biggest roadblock (I believe you helped him beat it) was W8-4 "Rubber Rush", which took 6 eps and 226 tries. W1-2 "Lead the Lads" was the only level without a single death.

This was so cool to watch. It must feel great to be a designer and see what you've made get broken and put together in such a beautiful way. As someone who watched every video of this world being built as they came out, it's great to see it still get recognition to this day. I remember when Covid started, I was eating at home way more often than ever, and these building streams were basically where my tradition of eating while watching a video comes from. To this day I'm grateful to the consistent entertainment they gave me and even if MM2 isn't "relevant" right now, I'll never not be happy to see more in the future.

Something to note about the speedrun in better detail of things I know: 0. Universally, grabbing the lowest part of the flag shaves off a second or so from sliding down the flag pole (I guess) 1. If you lock the ending castle with a door, Mario won’t go through without a key and Mario will also sit when you put him on a path that makes it impossible to leave it will take several seconds before the level finally counts as completed. And for speedrunners using their own timers instead of the course timer those several seconds can be costly. 2. Yoshi (I have no idea why Ross put him on the course) is one block tall hit box-wise when running around and thus could fit through that gap made for the pokeys. 3. Using the SMW and NSMBU styles allows for spin jumping which allows him to spin jump on those spike balls and it gets used to avoid the dangerous obstacles below. 4. NSMBU also allows ground pounds which makes the seesaws fling enemies into the air and into the lava. 5. You can grab the shell at any point as SMB2 Mario, so you don’t have to ride it the whole way through. 6. NSMBU ground pounds can also be canceled and he had the perfect timing as the red wall appeared and then wall jumped frames before they disappeared. 7. Mobility is much slower in the shell, so he just carried it the whole way. 8. If the bosses are big but the things on their heads aren't, they could be stomped on the side causing the things to fall on them, and the bullet bill launcher instantly crushes them. 9. The spike ball could hit Mario if he’s over the spring but not if he’s small and crouching because his hit box gets reduced to half a block. 10. NSMBU Yoshi could flutter jump and fly across gaps left by the level creators. If there's anything I missed or if I screwed something up, let me know in the replies.
