You are absolutely crushing it - about to hit your first $100K at 31?! Yes!!! My net worth at 30 was -$234, which is when I first decided to get serious about growing wealth. I started aggressively saving and in three years I hit my first $100K. In the next three I was up to $300K thanks to compounding. In 2021 I hit a half-millie - and I’m hoping to cross the $1M mark this year. I semi-retired a year ago at 40 and now I just read, travel, and follow my interests. I work for fun and spending money. You will never regret learning about money the way you have, and those “mistakes” (aka learning experiences) early on were relatively cheap lessons. Keep it going!

Great work, Leila! You are approaching this in the right fashion and with the right mindset. You will have to live through some rough times. Always stay the course and remember that when others are selling, you should be buying. Those who panic sell when there is a large market correction (look at what happened back in 1999-2000 and 2008 - I lived through those blood baths) are simply locking in a loss. If the money you are putting away is for later life, leave it there until you reach that later life! Stay fully invested and don't mess around with trying to time the market. It isn't timing the market that works - it's time IN the market that does. Invest as regularly as you can no matter what is happening around you. Take care and God Bless.

Sold them all at $177/share this past July, netting over $70k+!!! Took $60k of that and used it for a downpayment on my first house and then reinvested the rest(about $10k) into Palantir which has QUADRUPLED in the last 6 months with zero signs of slowing down. Also bought almost 1,000 shares of SoFi at $11/share. Gonna hold onto that and Palantir for the next 20-30 years. I’ll definitely be a multi-millionare bagger in due time.

So true…even financial advisors don’t properly explain that you must prioritize Roth over traditional and try to convert (which yes is taxable but once it is there whatever it grows to is all yours!) when / if you can afford to.
@reggaefan27002 күн бұрын
Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be a millionaire when you retire. The key is to start early. Buy and Hold works.
@Lego-vp3sz11 сағат бұрын
Leila…convert you SoloK traditional to ROTH SoloK, while the balance is still manageable tax-wise. Yes, you’ll have taxes…which you should pay in cash from your earning rather than reducing your 401k balance. Figure out how much you can afford to convert (eg set aside some earnings for this), and also try not to push yourself into the next tax bracket. But make it ROTH now, so in 30 years all those gains will be 100% yours, no tax. And it must become ROTH for 5 years before taking any out is non-taxable, so now while you’ll never touch those funds is the time to convert. Even if it’s just $20 K per year. You’ll never regret it as it grows tax free long term.

Leila, you are significantly ahead of most people your age, so please keep that in mind and keep going. You still have time on your side. I was not able to invest til age 54, and am now 55, so, I don't have much time but it still is the best way to build for retirement - same three buckets as you covered. I will say, as a piece of advice, you may want to consider adding some diversification to the 401k. Those two funds you have are great- but they have huge overlap. Consider adding something like SCHD - it's the best dividend growth fund and balances out against funds that are S&P focused and total market focused. And, thanks for sharing.

I didn't listen to my parents when they told me to start investing as soon as possible. I kind of regret it now, but it is what it is... I started working when I was 18 and was enjoying a lot of my money and had some gold coins (1oz) as a form of savings, but nothing else. Now I'm starting at 24y old with 10k balance in the bank willing to dump it into globally diversified fund and start contributing to it every month. I could've had 50k saved up more by 24 if I just invested instead of partying. That 50k would've been probably 85k-100k. I'm so mad. Kind of missed the crazy gains the market had during 2020-2025.

Don't be mad about it you are still very young. There are a lot of people that don't learn this until much later in life. Investing now it will grow for many years. You are slaying it at a young age. I was not so fortunate when I was younger but now I'm making up for it in my late forty's. There's more thing you can do to advance you savings/retirement/tax savings. Open an HSA account. Even though its a health savings account, you can use the funds to invest in the market and the gains are tax free. If you don't use the funds in your HSA account for health related purposes, all of it will be available to you at retirement age.

This is insightful. I have big debt right now and my focus is to become debt free by the end of this year. It will save me $20k so it not making money but I am not losing either. Than I will focus on making money. It seems to me you have to jump into something and make moves. Be it mistakes or not it is the best way to learn. You successfully made me nervous about life insurance. I don't know how in the world you lost all your investment 🤔🤨🤨 That's weird and scary!

Awesome, good luck on your debt free journey! Keep us updated. I think term life insurance is great for people with dependents! I have Universal Life and long term care. And insurance in general is just that, insurance, not an investment!

Leila ask you rCPA about a back door Roth IRA. This could help you with pass contributions that you may have missed out on👍👍👍👍

As a financial coach who makes zero $ from life insurance, it isn’t a bad product but it definitely isn’t for everyone and it definitely isn’t the first second or third step

For sure! I think term life insurance is great for those with dependents...but universal life for a 21 year old who won't have children?? Lol

I am bummed I didn’t know much about investing until recently. I was always just told to invest, which I have, but wasn’t taught on the different funds. I have been just doing my company 401k but was in a target date index fund which is only 8% rate of return 👎 wish I was just in the market index and also in a technology fund. VGT is 20.75% for 10 year rate of return. Nice. Thanks for the info!

I am just on 100k. Last 2 years I made 40k and bought a car, office & a flat. I work in cruise ships & investing in India. I am 40 plus. Lost job for 2 years during pandemic. Still life goes on.

I think you got the savers credit, re: your accountant. We have similar stories, clueless immigrant too, I started with TransUnion too with an index universal life. Fortunately I had a 401k at my employer that I was ‘forced’ to save 3% of my salary so I could compare the returns, see it was trash and dump the policy after 1.5 yrs. Thanks for sharing.

Yes that sounds right! I think it's great that some companies require those contributions, it helps people without even knowing!
