I was a mtn bike rider to the core my whole life….then a road bike showed up. I still ride both and still enjoy both. But after riding a road bike during the week and riding a mtn bike with my friends on the weekend was so unfair…to them! Haha. Riding 80-120 miles a week on the road then riding my mtn bike was insane! Cadence, tactics, pace lines, riding in the draft and a peloton etc…. Was mind blowing. Congrats on the new bike!

That is amazingly light. I scored a used road bike a few weeks ago, I was weighing it in the garage and it comes in a bit under 20 lbs, with the new tires and saddle it is right at 19 now. My 6 year old insisted we weigh her bike, poor kid that thing weighs 21 lbs! Steel is real......heavy.

Yep road is fun where you have beauty and not big city traffic. Do you guys have a cyclocross scene there. That is an amazing way to keep winter fit and crazy good times.

The closest I get to road bike is my virtual road bike in Zwift haha. Still it's very fast compared to a MTB. Also protip if you're Zwifting with a MTB on your trainer, get the Zwift click controller, it will give you virtual road bike gears through your trainer eliminating the issue of getting spun out (or your cadence glitching when climbing in your lower gears) which is a major issue with using a MTB on a trainer normally.

It's always a great way to get in condition, and when you'retired of one type of bike...well when you change the typeof bike for a bit, it's almost as though you've changed seasons and you're back at the beginning of the season again... just a change of energy level is all and new places to see as you are riding. Havefun with the new bike!

Had three different style bikes at one time in the past. Loved the road bike when I felt the need for speed. Miss that. Take care, Al

You're so close to doing all the major bike categories. You just need to ride a track bike and send it at the velodrome! Would honestly be an interesting video from you guys.

For my wife and I to ride together at different power levels I use a the AIRhub from Terrain Dynamics. It adds 1 watt per KPH on level one and 2 watts per KPH on level two. This ends up being 24 extra watts I have to put out at 24kph or 15mph when using level 1. It's an expensive piece of kit but well worth it in my experience. An added plus is it doesn't need to be charged and just works. If you need to you can always turn it off too and it has about as much resistance as a dynamo hub when off. I think it would work with Berd spokes so you could get it built sponsor appropriate unless Shimano sponsors your hubs too.

Too snowy, should have grabbed a ARI Kings Peak fat bike. Way more fun than dealing with bad drivers.

I'd love to see the build video at somepoint, if you can recover it? Or do a do-over. As a roadie, I'd love to see the issues you encounter, because, we do to. This is not the dark side. 🙂

Damn nice bike! Now i'm jealous I didn't think to get nobl wheels for my road bike. A big gold nobl logo would look sick on some deep wheels

Hummm. I've got a road bike I inherited from my oldest brother. I've never actually rode it. He passed back in 89 so that tells you how old this thing is. It's a Peugeot 18 speed with a 3x. Back then I guess it was considered a good bike. It has the shifters on the stem. They are paddle shifters. Will definitely take some getting used to. He used to ride this beast like 60 miles a day. I guess if he can do it I can learn to do it. Thanks for the inspiration Syd and Macky. Think I'll start working on it and let it rip again! 👍💪👊

From someone who does 90% of my annual miles on the road, welcome to the Dark Side! Like you I first got a road bike when I was racing mountain bikes (Sport Class back in the day) and thought I'd be better able to train on the road. But I quickly learned that I just love being on two wheels anywhere.

You don't have to justify using MTB pedals on your road bike. I'm a dedicated roadie and I use SPD on both of my road bikes. I guess they cost a few grams vs the road SPD-SL, but I love the ease of clipping in/not having to worry about which side of the pedal is up, and the recessed nature of the cleats means the shoes at least have the option to be more walkable when you need to stop for snacks or whatever.

Why is a road bike the “dark side”?
@newttella10432 сағат бұрын
Bless your heart for not knowing. Bike snobbery is very much like cliques in high school. Roadies vs mountain bikers. I think S.E. Hinton could re-write the Outsiders with roadies being the Socs and mountain bikers being the Greasers.
