The first segment of this broadcast goes completely awry when Betsy's zipper pops off of her dress, and Bill & Henry scramble to refasten it for her!

I had the pleasure of meeting Betsy Palmer when she stayed at the Lenox Hotel in Boston back in 1984. I was working there at the time and I must say she was as lovely off screen as on screen. Sweet smile, very friendly, extremely interested in everyone she spoke to. May she rest in peace.

I am so heartbroken to hear of Betsy Palmer's passing. She was the quintessential girl-next-door of the 50's; so lovely and sweet. R.I.P. Betsy. Say hi to Bill, Bess, Henry and the rest of the IGAS gang for me

Wonder how many people today know what a party line is.. There were several homes on our party line where I grew up. If you had told us that we would live to see individual family members, each with a phone they could carry around in their pocket, we would have said you were crazy.

Oh, that's hilarious! They were on LIVE (I don't think tape quite yet) and what else are you going to do? The chemistry on the classic "I've Got A Secret"s with Bill Cullen, Betsy and Henry Morgan was outstanding. The long running CBS game shows (I've Got A Secret, What's My Line and To Tell The Truth") were--and are--such a joy to watch. The charm was the PEOPLE and not anything else. Goodman-Todman were geniuses.

I clearly remember Betsy Palmer on IGAS. She was lovely to look at, and a "girl-next-door " type, similar to Doris Day. My personal favorite of all the panelists on that show, with Bess Myerson a close second. I'm saddened that she passed away a few years ago, as well as Bess Myerson, the first Jewish Miss America. Old (late 1950s) I've Got A Secret episode (TV, with Gary Moore). Three women are on the stage, seated. All have the exact same name; same church membership; each one has two kids; all three are married to a father. Secret? They all share the same telephone "party line." Obsolete technology - can't happen again? No. In 2013, all three are on the NSA telephone party line.

@tomservo56954 Forgot the other, major Fonda/Brando connection....Mrs. Brando (Marlon and Jocelyn's mom) directed Henry in amateur theatricals back in their home town of Omaha. That inspired him to give up a secure job and take a try at acting as a career.

@tallpaul521 Henry Fonda found the making of the movie painful to him, because he felt its director, John Ford, didn't understand the material. Ford thought it wasn't "macho" enough for a war movie. Things got so bad between the two that the producers ended up firing Ford and replacing him with Mervyn LeRoy.
@tomservo5695413 жыл бұрын
@tallpaul521 I learned that in the tryouts for the stage version of MR. ROBERTS, the nurse was played by Eva Marie Saint. By the time it reached Broadway, she was deemed "too pretty to be believable" in the part, so she was replaced by Marlon Brando's sister Jocelyn. Ironically, Eva Marie Saint would win an Oscar acting with Marlon in ON THE WATERFRONT.
@tallpaul52112 жыл бұрын
@tomservo56954 Wonderful information. Never knew that Marlon had an actress sister. Palmer was perfect for the nurse in "Mr. Roberts". What a great film. Henry Fonda said that he couldn't wait to get on stage each night to be Mr. Roberts -- one of his favorite roles.

Betsy Palmer really was an accomplished panelist/actress. I have discovered this program god...like nearly 13 years ago back on the old GSN. These black and white panel shows for the most part were fun to watch. Though, strangely of the I've got a secret black and white run, I actually enjoy the Steve Allen hosted shows a little bit more.

@tomservo56954 Fonda and Ford actually came to blows. One of them punched the other in the mouth -- can't remember who did the punching. This past 9-11, TCM had some of the first responders to the World Trade Center serve as guest programmers to choose the films for that day. One of the responders chose Mr. Roberts.
