Mazzie is so wonderful, but nobody will ever equal the lovable imp that Madeline Kahn was. She was unique.

@Shahrdad: For whatever reason, Kahn only lasted two months after the show opened, so Kaye was a godsend considering the effort to create the musical. Watching this is so sad that Mazzie didn’t play this role and many others before her death.

She's too good a singer for Lily and doesn't play it for laughs. I really prefer Madelyn Kahn's take .... an urban schlub who's faking being sophisticated...she's supposed to be a tacky nouveau riche buffoon.. Listen to the lyrics. Marin plays it far too polished She thinks Lily really is a fancy lady who's wealthy and top notch. She doesn't get it. She ruins the comedy. Chenoweth also brings her great voice to it but understands that she's a comic character. Every moment is funny... she knows that Lily is absurd. Marin is just not right for this.

What hogwash. I adored Madeline Kahn...bought the very first ticket sold at the box office at the St. James Mazzie is far superior. Lily is not Mildred. And you do know that this is a concert with very limited rehearsal.

Keep in mind: the cast had very little rehearsal time for this charity production. Even with minimal rehearsal, they are fantastic. Another month of work and they would have been just as good as the other two productions.

@@richardmayora1289 I agree 100%. I saw Kahn (pre-Broadway) and Kaye (Broadway) and they were both excellent, Kahn especially for her unique comic style and Kaye for her rock-solid vocalism. Judging from these clips, Marin Mazzie did a fabulous job with the role, especially considering the very limited rehearsal time. Her singing is superb, and she's found her own way into the role, not in any way a copy of anyone else. So glad to have a chance to see this!
