The reason why NFS 2015 still, and always will, look amazing is due to it being always at the same time. Without needing to factor in a dynamic light cycle they can just bake in lighting to the textures and use the resources saved on more impressive effects, and the map is also more closed off. Mirror's Edge (OG) did this and it still looks amazing, even though it came out in 2008. I wouldn't be mad if they used this strategy in some way again. I want the new NFS to ditch the offroad setting completely and just go nuts again with visuals. I honestly don't think such a wide open world is needed in NFS games. I want to stay on the road.

@@jamesleary3486 I don't think it's either, actually I enjoyed some of the offroad races. I think the beaches of Not Miami are great for some scrambles, but if I want that experience I can just go play Dirt, Forza or any number of rally games. It was so underbaked that I didn't even notice night time didn't even feature any till I finished the game. Instead I would've just rathered the time and effort put towards that part of the game just used more effectively. Maybe whoever in Ghost was tasked with designing the handling model and tracks for offroad could've spent more time on other aspects in the game.

It's not really down to baked lighting, NFS15 had multiple lighting scenarios based on where you were in the map (not too different from what Heat has) and they all looked great because the game had a consistent art direction, good lighting, and good materials. Heat has baked lighting, but the lighting and materials are hit or miss. Believe it or not, Payback also had baked lighting via Enlighten (it's what Frostbite used to use for global illumination before Heat which is using an in-house probe-based GI system), which had the ability to tweak lightmap radiosity and other stuff that aids with dynamic baked GI.

Discovery is only crazy hard when you race against Lina and try to get first place. Especially on heat 5. If you want a challenge try that Theo and make a video for it. Don’t pick 911 or Mitsubishi evo. Then try the heat 5 race afterwards.

i think they changed some of the difficulty curves of the police. the lower heats got a lot softer but heat 5 stayed wild tough... and i think they rebalanced against performance rating.
