If we are being brutally honest until the last couple of years the 400m hurdles for both men and women have been events where performances had atrophied. In the women's event Sally Gunnell's record from 1993 (ie 6 years before Sonia was even born) is still in the top 10 times of all time, before Delia broke the world record it had stood since 2003. In the men's event Kevin Young's record is even older, from 1992, and Edwin Moses' best time still ranks him 5th of all time - nearly 40 years since he ran it. We should be gratefully that in both the men's and women's event we have athletes will to challenge those historic times. I can see both men's and women's records being broken multiple times over the next year or so: sub 51.5 for the women and close to 46 secs flat for the men is achievable

Not to hate or anything, I quite enjoyed the video. Only suggestion would be to maybe work on pronouncing their names. McLaughlin goes as Mc•Lock•Lin and Dalilah goes as Da•Lil•Ah. Again, I’m not trying to hate or belittle anyone. People like their names being pronounced correctly. In school, whenever there’s a sub that’s seeing your name for the first time during attendance check, they usually attempt to say it and then ask if you’ve said it correctly to make sure they don’t offend you or disrespect you any further.

yep, top notch, no contorsion on the hips and the shoulders ( and therefor no sidewarts contorsion on the spine) , it must have taken a lot of practise to achieve this , every movement, joints are focused on going forward , and not the slighthest on going sidewarts, this has to be hard training, no doubt

Lost in the absurdity of Sydney's world record was the fact that Dalilah ran the 6th fasted 400m hurdles race in history. 52.42. And she's still shaking off rust from a long time out with some injuries. I genuinely believe we could see both of these ladies under 52 in Tokyo if the conditions line up right. They are both amazing.

Totally agree. I did not think Dalilah would be in sub 53 shape so soon. She likely has more room for improvement between now and the olympics which should make for a closer finish then we saw at the trials. I think Sydney is the better athlete this year (even when Dalilah is more race sharp) but if Dalilah has the inside lane and puts her under pressure early then it could go her way.

.....and there are over 100 other countries competing. Upsets are part of what makes the Olympics so exciting. My favorite parts are when someone from a little unsung country like Surinam or Bahamas beats the favorites from powerhouse countries.

She is amazing to watch. Seems relaxed with her runs and her form is spotless

That is what I noticed as well @Ella Mae Loftus, she seemed so relaxed, and focused, all at the same time. That type of fluidity in running takes both a broad view, and a relaxed side focus. There is the lane, the start, the sprint, and the rhythm. It is like a type of tunnel vision, once the gun goes off, you are already moving out of the blocks, then find your stride, and pump through. She makes it seamless from the start, but girl has power, and can kick it up, and get meters ahead.

@@paulboateng7521 They’ll put Muhammed on the team at the last world championships, along with Hayes and Felix. I doubt they’d put an 800m runner on a 400m relay
