So good to see you Fraser. As usual, you have an eclectic list of books here. Our Doris sounds interesting. Might have to check that out. Fayne is high on my TBR but Ann Marie MacDonald is an autobuy author for me. I'm waiting for the paperback. Loved Nothing to See Here. I hope you enjoy the Stygian Collection. The stories are all quite different. 😊💙

Always good to see your face! Sorry to hear its been a tough year, I really hope things start looking up soon. XX is definitely on my radar to get to, and yes yes yes to Spear Cuts! I wouldn't have expected your most anticipated, I've heard other people bring that one up, but hadn't really been curious about it before.

Great to hear your answers. I am somewhat envious about the number of graphic novels/manga that you've read. It is a form that I keep meaning to return to reading, but haven't done for a few years now. Those were some kind words about Our Doris and my channel, and they're most appreciated. You made me sound much more eloquent than I actually am. I agree with you about the cover of Moon Witch, Spider King. Indeed, I only purchased both books in the series because of their covers.

Well, if you do read some don’t follow big lists because people like some pretty strange things imo… You’re excellent at talking about writing craft! Hah did you! I read the first book when it was the new hotness. I remember liking it, but don’t remember it too well. I vaguely remember it might be a prequel even… that would be helpful, for me, if it was lol

I’m delighted to hear your enthusiasm for Fayne because it was one of my top books of 2022. Moving on to other books by MacDonald, I would steer clear of The Way the Crow Flies, unless you are in the mood for a very slow pace. Adult Onset hit me hard in the feels, having come of age as a lesbian in the same era as the autobiographical MC. The characters in her debut Fall on Your Knees (also somewhat autobiographical) have stayed with me for decades.

Really appreciated your insights on the Robert Musil book. It’s length was likely going to keep me away, but your review sealed it. You got your copy of the Stygian before I did.

It is baffling that it makes best-of lists. I think people just have to validate their spending time with long books. Then again, I thought the other quintessential European novel (supposedly) Unbearable Lightness of Being, was also terrible. So, maybe I just really am not able to tap into that vein of lit. Hah! Jolene said that as well. I just got it off of Amazon though, did you order it elsewhere?

For me, Ducks was fantastic, and The High Desert was solidly good, but not a new favorite. I think it was probably the emotions - The High Desert had a lot more angst, which always is hard for me to handle. And if you do feel in the mood to film more videos, I'm looking forward to them!

I've only read 32 books so far this year. I don't know how in the world people have time-or life- to read as much as 188 books by mid-year!! You must read extraordinarily fast. And I don't know how you remember everything you've read at the end of the year and you've accumulated 300 books or more. 😲😲😲 At any rate, I added "Our Doris" since it sounds delightful. Question: Do you like Story Graph more than Goodreads? I don't know whether to join SG or not.
@SpringboardThought
@SpringboardThought Жыл бұрын
A lot of those are graphic novels and what not, this year. I just spend a lot of my time reading because it’s what I enjoy. I hope you like Our Doris! I do like StoryGraph more. It imports things from Goodreads really well now, too. Including my shelves I tag everything with. The stats are miles better than GR too, but their genre tags are pretty weird and need some work. But if you’re tagging stuff yourself it wouldn’t matter anyway.

A comic book can be read in less than an hour. If you want to up your count just read a bunch of comic books. They are not really books though are they?
@shawkitty2524
@shawkitty2524 Жыл бұрын
@@jobuckley2999 I'm not into graphic novels (comic books), so my reading count will have to be much lower than many others. Last year my total was 54, but it's everyone's experience that really counts!
