I am in the process of doing the exact same thing. I am creating a comic book that I've estimated will take 10 years to make due to production costs and whatnot. It's a journey... :) I'll keep watching
@RicksCreations Жыл бұрын
@savetheworldtribe Great stuff! And yes, I have considered it but I probably won't be using AI, since it has basically cost me my job. I've gone from getting around ten commissions a month for years, down to maybe one or two a month, in just the past year. I'm struggling to decide whether I should go with the flow and get with the times by using the tech that has cost me my job to create other things easier, or rebel and stay close to my heart. I'm leaning towards the latter for now though! Thanks for the suggestions though, and good luck with your projects!

@@RicksCreations I'm not part of the conversation, but if I can throw my point of view in the subject ! As someone who's work have been also higly impacted (communication and marketing) I had the same opinion. But I changed my mind about it. It's not AI that stoled our work, but people who understand how to use AI in it's best way. You can find dozen of lightly skilled AI user, but it's like drawing, or writting, it's not because you know how to add a smiley on a white background with a comic sans ms font saying NEW OPENING that you created something. it take times, skill, learning. So now I use AI everyday in my job, I gained a lot from it, mostly preparation, idea building, etc... AI is just a tool, like painter felt about photoshop 20 years ago, or like news reporter felt about blog, or tv etc... You still need someone to operate the AI, to be trained on how to get the best of it. And if you're like me, AI is not the end result of what you are giving to someone, just a step of the journey !

Please limit his time video games ruined my childhood
@BeforeThisNovember10 ай бұрын
Like what this person said ^ I know that you want to be a loving mother who just wants their kid to be happy (and please don’t take this as forcing opinion or telling you how to raise your kid) but I wish my parents had pushed me and encouraged me into hobbies. I had so many hobbies as a kid, at one time or another, but I never received encouragement in them. I never got “forced” to continue one until it “stuck”. Video games can be fun in MODERATION - like an hour a day. But they really do take over your life. They become your “comfort” and “safe place” - all while the rest of your life erodes around you. I know you’ll be a great mother, but please take head from a couple of guys who experienced the negatives first hand.
@vjeranjanes57838 ай бұрын
Sure, put a limit to his video games, but I can say from experience that video games improved my creativity. I was a kid who LOVED video games and I wouldn't say I was addicted, but I definitely spent a lot of time playing them. But, by playing them I encountered a lot of new stories, thought up my own in those worlds, and my creativity just kept building up. Yes, video games can consume you and make you unproductive, but they can also be a great source for imagination.

Tolkien gave me the same spark for world creation when I was a kid and I found out his books...way before the movies but still the same effect. Brother and I started creating our world filled with monsters and stuff...writing stories about each one...but there was no YT or easy access to information over internet in the 90's so life took me into other direction but it still left a deep imprint on my subconscious mind. It shows you that your limits are only set by the borders you set up in your mind and time you are willing to invest into something.... value we give to something is completely subjective....no matter on economics.

You’re growing really fast now and you’re gonna see a lot more people from this point forward. That can add a lot of pressure on you to conform to the collective will of your audience, or even some imaginary idea of what that collective will is, but don’t let it effect you. People came here and subscribed because they love what you currently do. Keep doing that and you will keep growing. Don’t change something to conform but rather because you feel inspired to change. Also, take advantage of this boost in viewership. You’re in the forefront of people’s minds and that doesn’t last forever. Ride this wave while you can but don’t worry about how far it takes you because there will be other waves. You’re talented.

Man, my worldbuilding passion is also inspired by J.R.R.Tolkien himself (and Norse mythology, Beowulf, etc) and I draw sketches to visualize my world too. What Tolkien had done-his work, drawings and maps-was just pure love for his world and that made me want to create my own. I did poems and stories-the gods, the mythology, the history, the sagas or the rise and downfall of it. But sometimes I got tangled in my writing, revised again and again until I gave up on it but I still somehow got back to it recently. Seeing you did all of this seems to ignite that fire of passion again in me. I see a lot of resemblance of Tolkien in you and I think that one day you will tell the tales of Tumiun to your child just as J.R.R.Tolkien to his son Christopher Tolkien. I wish to see more of your world and hope you continue forever. (I would like to know the mythological begining of your world. Here’s mine: This was the very Beginning of all. It was all darkness at first. Before everything and anything, the world resided in nothingness, an endless abyss which of old they called Arregapsus “The Empty Well”, there was no shape here, no feeling, no cold or heat, not any form of living beings as barely if anything felt like nothing. And then there were these light wanderers called Essidirs “Earliest of the Essence”, they were born in this abyss like a flickering of light when the edge of darkness crashed into each other and created them. Yet that moment created the contrast of everything: of darkness and light, of cold and heat, of old and new, of before and after. Then both mindlessly and unconsciously, after the Essidirs had wandered around for almost eternity as time was not conceived so we could not tell for how long of an eternity they had wandered, they consumed their own essence and created the gods for they knew their existence was meant for something not empty like their place-it was their chosen fate to create more and more of everything-not just the static contrast but also the circle of movement of creations. Essidirs gave birth to the gods and the gods were their everything”).

Amazing video, Harry Potter gave me my love for fantasy and then lotr made me obsessed I started world building 6 years ago and I’m now 11.

I don’t usually comment but I felt the need to after such a great video. I also worldbuild in my free time on my own world that I’ve been developing as a hobby for about 4 years now, and someday I want to make it into a comic series. Your video was extremely encouraging, I hope your stories get the attention they so rightfully deserve.

Do you have any tips? I wanna start, but I don’t know where. I feel like I’m always copying things already exist or I see 3937382847383 landscapes and want them all to be in my world.

I would love to hear more of the short stories based on your artworks! I think the cozy campfire storyteller sounds like an awesome idea. Maybe fading in artwork you already have where appropriate! Without the inspiration and support of my friends I don’t think I would have been able to worldbuild for D&D as much as I have either.

I've looked through the cartographer video and I'm about halfway through this one. Every single piece of art has made my jaw drop. The world you craft is incredible and this is the kind of channel I've always wanted to follow. I don't think I've blinked for the last 20 minutes lol. Edit: I would love to see you talk about your art and YOUR HANDWRITING cuz its incredible. I want to know every single detail about this beautiful world

Hi, I discovered this channel with the video "An introduction to Tumiun" and I just wanted to say how impressed I am by this universe that seems both very unreal and very real, even though I don't understand everything(I'm French and I understand very little English and I write with the help of a translator)but I feel the passion that drives you for this universe so I just wanted to tell you to continue this incredible universe and that I can't wait to discover other mysteries and secrets of this universe. And, I confess to having a great interest for Avanima and I can't wait to find out more about it.

That last bit put a smile on my face. Ive been worldbuilding even before I knew what worldbuilding was...in imagination. I always found excuses to not put pen to paper because of the tidal waves of life, and telling myself one day Ill get to it. I guess its time to start.

This kind of content is what KZbin should have way more of! It is just heartwarming and touching to be allowed to have an insight in your passion. Telling stories is actually the essence of human interaction in my opinion. Please continue what you do, I hope there will be so many more stories from Tumiun for everyone to listen to. Thank you for letting us be part of your story!❤

Omg, I've had this video in my "Watch later"-playlist for quite some time and now I'm finally coming around to watching it. Right when you started talking, I was like "Huh wait, he sounds Dutch". So funny how we can hear a difference in accents after just a few words. (I'm not saying you have the typical dutch accent btw ;)) The quality of your video, art and storytelling stand out far beyond anything I have seen/heard the past few months. Only logical that you've found such big success with this video! As a fellow dutchie, it definitely makes me proud! Going from 900 subscribers at the time of making this video, to now 50K+ is insane!!! Keep it going, Rick!

Wow, I was just scrolling through the videos looking for some inspiration to continue building on my world and I found it. Thanks a lot, and most of the things you said are true, I'm in high school right now and sometimes it's hard. And this project is similar to what I do, a big world with a lot of different locations and unexplored territories. Thanks a lot again, and keep it up. Also sorry if I typed anything wrong I'm not a native English speaker.

I still have not found a cohesive world for all of my settings. My worldbuilding projects are all over the place. Therefore watching your story near the beginning of finding a single world is deeple relatable to me. I would love to hear about Tumiuns magic system. I am always spending lots of times on magic systems and wonder, what you came up with.
@RicksCreations Жыл бұрын
It's definitely a journey, and when the time is right the idea you've been looking for might suddenly appear right at the end of your pen or pencil. Best of luck! And I'm glad to hear that so many of you want to learn more about Tumiun's magic, because while it is mostly a "soft magic" system I'd still love to talk a bit about how it works.

Absolutely amazing! It is so comforting to hear how worldbuilding has helped other people. The attention to detail, quality, and passion put into in all of your videos is insane. The arm wraps of the PC and the Cartographer being the same is particularly impressive, and his reminiscing of his first adventures in Arkiun, I'd say that player grinned when he saw that. Bravo! BTW, I think Ambarna is a really interesting region, with no trees and the gold stuff.

its honestly insane how quick you began growing. only 900 subscribers, and within only a month you have slightly over 20k. this world you crafted is fascinating, no wonder this channel has grown so quickly.

My journey as a worldbuilder began a very long time ago with roots in telling stories, and discovering roleplaying games. I also have a world full of an infinite number of stories to tell, and share glimpses into the world through the eyes of its denizens and explorers. Similar to yourself the lack of a cohesive place to contain all the stories was a core part of my decision to stay with a single setting for 34+ years. Congrats on the new chapter of your life. I think that the storyteller by the fire is an excellent vehicle to share short stories - Similar to the "Jim Henson Hour", perhaps with a smaller production budget, but it is a simple and consistent element that can be used over and over for such activities. As to Exploring Tumiun, I'm curious about what is in and beneath all that ocean water. Tell us about the seas.

KZbin only just suggested me this today so I'm a bit late to the party. Absolutely beautiful video. Ever since leaving school about 10 years ago I have been developing my own such world like this. Thousands of pages of various stories of cultures, places, and events describing one world which has now grown to wondrous size. Countless hours learning how to write proper novel structures from authors like Brandon Sanderson, combing through Tolkien and Raymond E. Feist books with a highlighter to find phrases I loved. An immense amount of Ai Artwork, hand drawn maps and sketches to give body to something formless in my mind. There is real passion in this type of endeavor, and you reflect that particularly well. It's refreshing and inspiring to see you talk about how it has changed aspects of your life, as in my case world-building was my escape from anxiety and the stress of life and ultimately a outlet for my rampantly creative brain (which sometimes feels a little like a curse). Now I have finally fully committed to my first novel that I am pushing towards for release hopefully next year, since January 1st I am now 302 pages and hopefully ending my final lines around 550-600 pages. I am now completely lost in my world once more and loving every second of it. Lovely video!

Holy cow, to go from 900 subs to almost 41k in 3 months must be mind blowing. VidIQ says this video is 360 times more viewed than your normal. Great piece of work, and I'm glad the almighty algorithm is serving it up to so many of us fiction-hungry viewers.
