Here is the explanation of the forest scene and light's mind-blowing master plan. In the forest light exchanged I will refer to ryuk's notebook (light's notebook) as DN1 and Rem's notebook (misa's notebook) as DN2 . So after the switch Noe rem has dn1 and ryuk has dn2 Here are all the advantages the light gains from this : 1. Rem would give the dn1 to some power hungry greedy guy as per light's instruction, ryuk wouldn't have done that as he doesn't take light's side. 2. Rem would always be closer to L once he gets the dn. This would allow her to see L suspecting Misa and in turn killing him. 3. She wouldn't help L 4. Now, the exchange was important because the dn that L gets NEEDED to be DN1 because: 5. It has all the names of the Kira victims so that L can cross check it . 6. It has the rules of deathnote so that L can understand them among the fake rules that proves light and Misa innocent. 7. The rules will also help the new Kira to understand it 8. When Misa takes the ownership this time. She is able to make the eye deal because ryuk allows it when Rem wouldn't have. So as you see the exchange of the notebook's shinegami put the piece in the right place to make the plan work. Although the plan was risky it's genius and one of the best portrayals of intelligence that I have seen in any media 🔥

Relinquishing ownership of the notebook also resets all the fingerprints on the notebook apparently and getting rid of any physical evidence that light had on the death note

Most people assume this, but Rem introduced Jealous as spending all his time watching Misa. He may not have taken any time to extend his own life span outside of just a few years to keep himself alive, so he could watch her.

@@2coolperson - Yeah, but I doubt shinigamis normally walk around with only a few years of life remaining... you'd think the first thing they'd do would be to off a few dozen people, pump that number up to a few hundred years, and then they could go slack off for literally centuries. Getting low? Knock off a few dozen more so you can slack off again. Then consider that Misa's pretty young. If Jealous started out with a decent shinigami lifespan (say, a couple hundred years, maybe with a dozen extra,) then even if he watched Misa for most of her life, he'd only lose a decade or so. So then, if he died when she was, say, 20, her lifespan would still jump to at least around 220, if we're reasonable. And we know that's reasonable, because Rem even stated that her lifespan had been extended to "well beyond its natural end," and even 100 isn't "unnatural" for a human lifespan. So, with our assumptions, that would mean Misa could easily have started out with 200 years more to live. Even cut in half twice, that's still an extra 50 years of life, with her dying at around 70... a little early by modern Japanese standards, but not terrible.

If we low-ball it and say she would have lived until 150 years old and say that she was around 20 years old during most of the story, then that would mean that she'd lost 65 years with the first deal and about 32 years with the second deal. So she'd still have quite a bit of life left. And that's the low end.

light had the notebooks passed around, and owned them for at least 1 second to imprint his memories on them. like a playstation memory card. so he was basically putting his memory on both notebooks so whichever one he gets back, he'll remember. also, next episode: 25 is my favourite episode of the entire series.

What he says is right for the both books, Light have memories on both books; doesn't matter which one he holds first, he would remember everything but of course his plan of catching Kira(Higuchi) leading him to holding this specific notebook first since the other one is buried in the forest. So what you are saying is right for only one book which ended up in Rem's hand to give someone power hungry (Higuchi). So no matter which book goes in circle of "Light > Ryuk > Rem" order, would result Rem attaching to the book and Ryuk touching to the notebook wouldn't be necessary if Light's plan was solely making sure Rem attached to Higuchi. So it's not "the passing of the books around" made the "Rem attachment" but Light's ordering Rem to "give the book to someone" made automatically makes Rem attaching since she is the one giving the book.

​@@matteobozzolime I think you can't comprehend a simple logic here. I don't know how you can't understand no matter which book Rem gives by her own hands, will attach to that person. So exchanging books has no effect to bind or attach her to the book she holds and gives. You still think they passed books between so Rem would attach to Higuchi. Since you can't be calculated and cannot establish a simple causal links, I wish you good luck in your life.

Light would have never chanced ripping pieces out of the notebook or even trapping his drawer to explode if doing so would actually kill himself. Also, one of the reasons Light had Ryuk, Rem, and himself exchange the notebooks in a circle is so that Rem would be attached to him, and Ryuk would be attached to Misa. Keep your enemies close and all that. It's not the main reason, though.

Light got his memories back bc he touched the whole notebook, not just a piece like misa got touched with by rem (which only allowed her to see rem not have memories back) But for Light to have ownership and keep his memories he needed to kill somebody again by using it while it was in his hand

No, Light got his memories back because he touched (whether the whole thing or a piece doesn't matter) a notebook that he had previously owned. Misa had never owned Light's notebook, so she didn't get any memories when she was touched by [a piece of] it.

Those were written on pages or torn pieces of the notebook and aren't actually written in the book itself.

Not only were those written on pages that Light had already removed, but all the other pages he'd used were removed by Light before he gave it to Rem. That would have been a pretty big oversight otherwise.

So this should be seen by Jared and Jordan too listen Light switches the death note which means that the death note that light always used and was given by ruyuk is on rem ownership which that means was given to higuchi but remember that one rule says that when the owner dies then the notebook ownership goes to the last person touching it at the moment which means light was winning time to hold it till higuchi dies So light got rid of the ownership of misa notebook which is now missing

Part 2 So now the notebook that is missing is about to be found by Misa which if she takes the ownership means that she gets the memories back because it’s her notebook and being held by ruyk that’s why the memories didn’t come back with rem notebook because it wasn’t hers and now you should be able to understand the action of light so light hold the notebook till he knows that higuchi got it so than when he removes the ownership it flies to higuchi

He can pass them around as a "previous owner" and get memory back but since the names written in it are not the ones Light wrote at the beginning of the story, they can't compare them with Light's killing, only Higuchi and the few Misa did.
