Even if Fun Spot locations lack Chuck E. Cheese branding, food, or prize redemption, the mall arcades aren’t a bad concept in my opinion. It would bring a small arcade experience to those in the area who don’t have CEC or Dave and Busters locations nearest to them.

Swing and a miss. The cheapest solution would be to have some leaderboard display technology in the footprint (where you register your card on a website and pick a display name + they collect email addresses to build a database): so you could at least brag on social media about having the high score of the day/month/year (think Buzz Lightyear Ride at Disney). That has no hard cost to it. Finally, they couldn't brand the card that you get credits on for a few extra cents to "Fun Spot"? If they did, people would carry it in their wallet and remember to go back there.
@maxtheblackbear8072Ай бұрын
Fun Spot would be great for malls that are in small towns. Maybe if people can't afford CEC or D&B, this would probably be a nice place to visit. Its a shame my mall won't get this since we have an mini arcade inside.

You might enjoy the largest arcade in the world (also called Fun Spot) up in New Hampshire. They’ve got bowling, mini golf, and a pinball museum, too.

A concept that would have been fantastic 20 years ago. I’m a little surprised they don’t tie in the Chuck E Cheese name and characters for some extra draw - otherwise it is a nondescript arcade.

Should be a good thing... however, I wonder if it will have any vintage 1970s-'80s arcade games?
@adamwiz2Ай бұрын
Disregarding the obvious lack of food, employee training or process of credit redemption; considering the dying nature of malls (in America) in general, combined with the fact that this type of arcade is not a new concept, I don't this this is a well thought out business model and would be very surprised if it lasts outside of the prototype stage without significant modification.
@SetsStreetsEatsАй бұрын
@@adamwiz2 I don't think you're wrong. I'm not really sure what their purpose for doing this is besides testing out new game technologies, because clearly it's not a big enough concept to directly go after Dave and busters, so I guess we'll have to see how they're gonna roll this out and scale up. But yeah, malls aren't exactly the place to be anymore, so it is an interesting choice.

They also aren’t bringing anything new to the arcade scene, so there’s no incentive for repeat customers or any difference between going to any other arcade.

I have a hunch it’s CEC getting ready to ditch their brand and downsize considerably to avoid another nasty bankruptcy. Probably completely wrong though

Two things: 1. If only the arcades inside Chuck E Cheese were as cool as this. 2. What could make this do better is if they include imported games like Initial D, Sound Voltex, Project Diva, and Exa Arcadia. 3. Unless I missed it, this along side Chuck E Cheese needs a PAC-MAN game of some sort. 4. Maybe have a few oldschool machines (Pac-Man, Street Fighter 2, Time Crisis, something like those). I know there's those online who hate seeing card readers on old arcade machines but if you ask me, I'm fine with it as long as it lets the game be played for more years to come.
@KHearts428Ай бұрын
Omg I would love if they had imported games like Round 1 does. I’ve never seen a better arcade chain than them. I think fun spot could be interesting if they brought something new to the arcade scene otherwise i don’t see them having repeat customers

@larrylaffer3246Ай бұрын
Since it's the same corporate entity as Chuck's I'm surprised they don't just use the same cards and price structure. All they'd have to implement differently is the fact they don't serve food and they don't have a prize counter. Not a bad idea just not one that was thought out all too well.
@CheezbatАй бұрын
Ok… so I’ve known about these for months. They have about a dozen in the works. Saint Petersburg Tyrone Square Mall and Orlando Florida mall were supposed to be the first two, but thanks to issues with leasing, they’re still in the works. The concept works just fine. For those of you that don’t know, a lease in a mall is MUCH cheaper than the existing stores leases. This has pretty low overhead. It’s the lease, electricity, and minimal staffing. Nothing compared to running a full location. I personally think the lighting is a big mistake. It looks like a CEC, not an arcade. Might as well brand it Chuck E. Cheese at this point. I am also disappointed there are no pinballs or classic arcade machines.

As fun as it is, it seems kinda scammy if you cant spend virtual tickets on anything. Even if the ticket to prize ratio is bad, it still feels good to get something decent eventually.

When I was there I scanned my play pass from Chuck E. Cheese and it did not work. The point structure to play the games is completely different. CEC's games are 1-2 points each and Fun Spot games are 10-30 points each, and only CEC offers redemption. All of the games are just for fun too, when you use your points you don't get anything back on the card. It's similar to how it works in Ocean City which doesn't allow redemption arcades.
