Well I don't think you'll ever find a more unique collection of tanks than this. Certainly worth the long drive. Thanks for sharing that experience with us.
@philcavallini96572 жыл бұрын
I thought he shut everything down due to the immense cost of running and keeping the fish. Very cool to see he didn't break it all down and instead went with native fish I'm sure it saves him alot of heating the systems. Also the cichlid tank used to be a saltwater tank with aggressive/semi aggressive fish. Regardless it's really nice to see his collection!

Best video yet mate , what a pleasure to see his entire collection of stunning and unique set ups, I love his style and passion for his take on the hobby. I remember when his big tank had tropical fish , truly amazing, I also remember he had an issue with the electric company not charging the correct amount then hiting him with a massive bill, I've always wondered what he did and how it now looked, well all questions answered, what a nice gentleman he is and you clearly had a good bond over your shared passion, great work Mick ,keep it up.

I know very little about freshwater but have 15 years experience with saltwater…and own my own coral farm The cloudy water like that in a marine tank is a bacteria bloom which is fixed with a UV steriliser, although you’d need a very big one for that tank

I’m sure I read an article in PFM many years ago about the huge tank in the basement, and if I remember correctly, there was photos showing the different stages of construction, it truly was and still is an unbelievable tank to have in your house. I never knew he had so many incredible tanks in his house, you could say, truly a fish house. 😲🏴

The DeChlorinator is mainly for Chloramines which doesn't gas off (which is why they started using it) which are nasty for fish. If he wants clearer water he needs to put something finer in his filtration to mechanically remove it. Some cheap stuffing for making cushions etc would be his best bet and to remove and chuck it away each week.
@philcavallini96572 жыл бұрын
As far as the clearing up the water, a massive uv system along with a mechanical filter along with the bead filter. Also I don't see any form of oxygenation, maybe run a massive air pump that will increase the O2 saturation and help in clearing up the water. It's what I do on my 1500 gal and I feed them raw cut fish and it maintains the water quality and clarity
@BarefootPhilanthropist2 жыл бұрын

such beautiful aquariums! nice jobs! I was thinking about the particles in the water around 12:26 . I think its because of the tree braches. I really do think so.
@fredzep012 жыл бұрын
I was going to say that, didn't he say the branches were dead, and from the local woods ? That's his problem right there. Powerful filtration and massive powerful fish are striping that dead bark of those branches, not to mention the filtration would lose a percentage of its filtration.

Oh... Gee... The simplest way to clearer water... Have 100 micron Filter Socks where the water returns to the tank from the filter... Split the return feeds into several outlets, each with a sock. That is what people use for tanks and ponds,these days. You have to wash them a lot. But, is pretty easy to do. Cheers, again!!
@bubblerings Жыл бұрын
Can test a single filter sock first... To see if it clears your water, before altering your return pipes.

For the largest tank, alongside the bead filter, he could use filter floss for mechanical filtration, over the course of a week or two on 22k Litres, with regular changing of the floss, it will clear up the tank, if that's what he wants to achieve.
@BadlydrawnBen2 жыл бұрын
Watched this tank on and of for years amazing. Just a thought but I'm betting the clouding of the water is caused by bacteria from the wood

That 22000ltr tank is awesome, I have this theory with aquariums if you can keep the fish alive without stress and everything seems to be going right don't change what your doing too much I would say the next thing you might be able to do is add plants if not add somewhere in the filter loop add a plant bed to grow vegetable in and let the plants handle the nitrates not only will it help the tank but your going to have the best veggies with little to no effort. Look up aquaponics

Chloramine is also put into water by water companies and this doesn’t gas off. Always good to ask your supplier but I’d always use 3 stage carbon filter. Not fair on your fish swimming in chlorine chloramine or any other chemicals for the sake of a few quid on a filter
