that's the day I started (in '22)! If CO ends up being too snowy you can always flip too. Fingers crossed for you though, the San Juans can be sneaky with the snow pack.

@@eliseott Thanks Sauce. Your videos are helpful. There's not as much readily available information on the CDT as the PCT or AT, which are well documented and marked so well that one could almost hike them blindfolded!

@@pungo147 thank you!! Can’t speak to the AT, but the CDT def felt like a step up compared to the PCT. Its getting better every year though I think.

Yo Sauce!, As the fates prevail i recently relocated to Silver City and have been a stocking water and TM, mile 2861.1 for the late SOBOers, a grand experience. Yes the two items in need is water and shade, will meet with Gila Forest rep to see if they can procure funding for items such as shelters out side of the Gila. There was a big learning curve when i started, a definitive series is needed for folks as i on how to Stock points, app used, trial boxes, etc. Best Regards, Rambler

That's awesome!! Silver City is such a cool place. Sounds like there will be some very grateful soboers at that mile marker as well! Shade pavillions in other parts of New Mexico would be a GAME CHANGER. We spent so many afternoons huddled around the water cache boxes, moving as the sun did haha. Ooh a 'how to hike the CDT' series could be super interesting! Thanks!!

was the strong wind in NM difficult for the umbrella?

I didn't have any issues in New Mexico, just the basin! But it's possible I got lucky with wind. I also had a habit of putting it away if it got particularly gusty (wasn't quite as hot usually in that case either) BUT sometimes the wind was just hot which sucked haha.

@@eliseott think I'll start with a hat but pick up an umbrella on trail if I start to look like a cooked lobster

I can not say for NM, but I hiked the Colorado Trail which the CDT follows for a pretty good section and I loved having my umbrella. When I purchased it I wondered if I would regret that decision. But after having used it I was so happy I did. It does help with the sun, especially above tree line and I much prefer it over wearing rain gear when it is raining. Although I did wear a rain jacket upon occasion.

I know! and that was with using sunscreen!! And that's okay, I'm always conflicted about it haha. I do love my government name as well :)
