Its insane to think about how much personality each small alleyway has in the middle of a city as big as Tokyo. Imagine the number of stories a single shop may have had in that one particular alleyway. And you passed so many in your walk.

@@MostlyPennyCat I agree. Most parts are like this, at least it seemed to be on my visit. With the exception of London. Been there. Gets sketch at night. At least my death in the US will be quick and painless. I'm not too keen on getting stabbed to death with a dull 4cm knife.
@MostlyPennyCat
@MostlyPennyCat 11 ай бұрын
@@cadenswain158 Although death in the UK is more likely to come from a knife than a gun, that's not because we have a knife crime problem. You are, in fact, more likely to die from a knife in the US than the UK. But yes, there are places you shouldn't really at night in a few of the cities, especially London. But that's London, you need to get out, see other places. For anybody after ideas, I highly recommend the following: Go to Yorkshire/Lancashire and hire a narrowboat for a week. Book an out and back trip, you can do those double handed (two people) and it's like nothing else you've ever experienced, even believed possible. If you want specifics, go to a town called Sowerby Bridge, contact Shire Cruisers, book a small 2-4 person boat and do a 7 day off and back route up to Todmorden, back to Sowerby and down the ways a bit and then back again. Have breakfast and lunch on the boat, eat dinner at a pub. Or, breakfast on the boat and moor at a pub for lunch (yes they have moorings, it's the best) and dinner. Make sure you eat at the Three Wise Monkeys in Todmorden, book ahead. Speed limit is 4mph. You get nowhere slowly but it's a revelation. It's relaxing without being boring, because you can never be bored with a hundred ton house boat. That they just give to you. Even if you've never done it before. Which seems insane and is a bit intimidating at first but it's glorious and we do it as many times as we can. It's how we're retiring, so laps of the country until we die.

@@MostlyPennyCat Do you know that people living in Tokyo can also say the same thing too. Japan is also considered an island. If you look at the map, it is surrounded by water. I know you call your island beautiful. That term beautiful is also what the people in Tokyo can describe their island too. No rules saying an island needs to be a tropical beach area. I would assume that you live near the beach. Any island in the map can have big cities away from oceans too.

In a way, it is an example that once you become an adult, you get to do anything you want which includes travelling at your own terms. That can include travelling in the middle of the night seeing the city lights. When you see them walking there, I guess in a way that they are old enough to be independent. The populated people you saw there meant once they are old enough to be independent, they did not have any school life.

I think you mean sleepless city. This area that is filmed is where a city that do not sleep. If the city were sleeping, then you would see every business there close. Sleeping city means a ghost town. I don't think you want to go back to this 2020 era. Even Las Vegas became a sleeping town due to the way how the government shuts it down. If you say you love sleeping city, that is like saying you rather see the city go into quarantine.

@@Theorof Forest areas, or any nature place is where if you wanted a quiet place to relax. If you want forest, you might be thinking going to the mountains where you are away from crowded people. If you wanted noisy crowded streets, you come to this big city. You can tell by watching this video, this city is definitely not taking place in the mountains. If you choose a residential area, then you will go to places that is less populated with people. There are some who choose to live in a middle of nowhere which means those residents don't get to have any city life there. Forest or farming areas is for people that want to get away from noisy crowds and would rather be in a quiet deserted place.

What if you were to ask someone to take you to Japan. You would have to be specific. Remember once someone promises you to take you to Japan, they might even take you to Tokyo where it is quiet and deserted. What if that person were to take you to a residential area? You won't see any city lights there. If you choose a business area, you may notice that it is a ghost town at night. Certain areas in Tokyo can be a ghost town too and certain areas in Tokyo can have business being closed at night. So if you were to say you wanted a popular spot where it is a big city where people stay up late, then you are picking the one that is filmed in this youtube channel. Just remember if you only describe seeing Japan at night, it won't necessarily mean based on what you see in this youtube channel. What if that person were to take you to a farming place? Note that seeing Japan at night can be anywhere in Japan. Even the ones that you don't see in this youtube channel.

As long as you choose a location that actually have a city light, then you have a shot. If you book a hotel anywhere else in Tokyo, you will discover that outdoors are less populated but you will see through the windows that people also work in the office in the middle of the night through a hotel window. If you book a hotel where this man Norm is recording it in youtube, then it is convenient for you to enjoy the night walk Some areas in Tokyo can be a ghost town as well but Norm did not choose that area for recording. I have been to areas where there are certain shops or certain restaurant that close for dinner. I know I had seen certain areas where it is quiet in Tokyo even if it is 7 pm or 8 pm. In business areas, lesser people travel outdoors but if you choose time square areas full of city lights, you will discover that many people walk there in the middle of the night and every shop do not close. I had past experience going to 7 Eleven late a night. I went like damn, I am the only customer or customer number there is very tiny. Those city lights becomes a tourist attraction that make you want to have enough energy to stay up late at night. That video you see here is a place where a man record the most populated people in Tokyo to record and that right there is a place where it is a time square location.

Where I'm out it's not really safe to do so. I'm looking at at least visiting early next year and my list of things to look at is SO LONG Also stay safe in the heat. This might have been better to do in September lol. Also also- I'd love to see this in longform, though I know that's a pain to edit. Have a great week :) Also also also, what's your bag? Sounds like you had chosen a busy street area to book a hotel. If you booked a hotel anywhere else in Tokyo, you will see the streets being populated with lesser people at night even during dinner hours. I remember the time when I went to Japan in 2018. When I took a walk late at night, I only went to 7 Eleven. I also see that certain shops do close late at night. In a hotel window, I see people working in the office late at night but lesser people hanging outdoors. Lesser people go outdoors at midnight. As long as you book a hotel with city lights and being a busy street that has a time square, you will be in an area where populated people walk in the middle of the night enjoying the city lights. I would assume the area where you book a hotel, every shop do not ever close. So you can see that he only filmed the busy street area for youtube but leave out the quiet areas. Tokyo also have quiet areas too where during the night, it is a ghost town. Areas you chosen in Tokyo is not a ghost town.

I am sure even in this city of Tokyo, people did go on lockdown back in 2020. I had seen even Las Vegas gone on lockdown in 2020. You can be on lockdown in any country. Even a city that never sleeps started sleeping in 2020. Makes no difference if you were in London, Las Vegas or even Tokyo. 2020 was the time period where majority of places was in Lockdown. Besides, this video was posted 10 months ago so I bet you could not have seen this video during your lockdown. That guy could not record it in 2020 because it was most likely a ghost town.

My family and I just spent a week (just returned home on 7/15/23) in Tokyo and it was AMAZING!!! We walked and saw amazing sights and sounds(Imperial Palace, Tokyo Sky Tree, Sumida City, Chiba, Funabashi, and the surrounding neighborhoods). We loved our stay and are looking to going back. I thought about contacting you, but I figured you’d be busy and wouldn’t have time to respond to all the messages you get. (I was right)! You live in a wonderfully dynamic and great city. Mahalo for all you share with us with your home and city and life! Always looking forward to the next video!

Honestly Norm I just love watching your videos. It's always a nice comfy time and it's always super informative on stuff I never knew. I also kind of hope you do one of those "walking around X town in Japan" where it's just you walking maybe occasional talking or info dumps about stuff all raw and unedited as a 4-6 hour video to just chill out to with a little music in the background.

This is already my second favourite video of yours, ever. I'm probably gonna be rewatching this one as much as I rewatch the night photography on rooftops video with Lukasz. I love the streets at night, and it was so good to see more of them, as well as some I recognized from my recent trip. I hope the pokemon cards we got for you are among those on the wall.

Since I started my study abroad in Tokyo last year I also just walk around in the city. It's just very calming to see such a big city calming down at night and having it almost to your self. The only thing I don't really do is exploring the rooftops. Is there like a special mark or other thing you need to watch out for, for which buildings you can go on or do you just go on random ones? Anyways thanks for the nice video :3
